one of the best ships in space...
About this creation

USS Sulaco - WIP_I

After a long brake of thinking and scratching nearly every part of my body, i decided to start completly new with this ship.
The engine with it's round hull in 4 big pieces made my scream... I didn't come up with an solution that satisfied me enough. There where to big gaps in every solution.
And also i found much better pictures from behind, to see how the engine really looks like.

the old beginning:

the new start:
I changed the direction of the studs to the front and add only for the last "layer" some tiles outside.
At this state we have 3500 pieces...

I hope i will finish this anytime ;-) !

criticism is welcome ;-)

Quoting Lego Obsessionist I can't imagine dealing with this complexity.
It looks more crazy than it is... ;-) ! But i also did search 2 years for that solution !

Quoting El Barto ! Dude! Impressive build here, tons of intricate details around the large scale shapes. Now back at it!
Thanks - i'm glad you like it ! it's the thinking-work and "try and error" of 2 years ;-)

Quoting Mark Kelso Beautiful design work. The hull curvature is terrific, in particular. It's such a challenge with Lego to create smooth, cylindrical shapes at this scale - often there are too many gaps between the pieces, and the spaces between the parts can interfere with the plated look that ships usually require. Not this time...looks great! Looking forward to more.
Yeah... that's exactly the reason why i started this the 3rd time :-( But i don't give up ! there is always a solution which works

Quoting matt rowntRee That is a fantastic shape for the drive. I love the layers you created, amazingly complex. I'd love to see an actual pic of the original since the movie is so dark and the ship blends in. In fact, I don't even remember actually seeing the drive section other than a passing profile (in the dark.) Wicked re-start. Sometimes it yields the best results to just scrap an idea. Excellent!
Thanks ;-) And yeah - sometimes it's better to go back to the "drawingboard" ! I'm now 2 years on that lady - starting, ending, starting, ... And there are not many pics out there where you can go close enough to the original.
