I am in the Orthac Bracket!
About this creation
This is my entry for round two in 2013-2014 MELO

my very skilled opponent page Andrew the Jedi Ninja is here!

Our quote for this category was:

"Do you know how the Orcs first came into being?"

and for those who are not familiar with the scene, the movie later goes on to say:

"They were elves once, taken by the dark powers, tortured and mutilated. A ruined and terrible form of life."

I considered that a very important part of the history of the Orcs, and that's what I've depicted in my MOC. It's a scene of several elves being taken prisoner into Morgoth's halls of Thangorodrim, where they are to be, for lack of better words, ruined. I wanted it to be a small entrants to the dark halls rather than the main gate, as it's likely the elves would not have been taken in there.

I tried to make it appear as barren and lifeless as I could, and kept the number of colors used to a minimum to make it appear more bleak. I also didn't want to make it to dark, with the torturing elves bit and all... Hopefully this did the scene justice!

(also, quick apology for the bad lighting in the pictures, it's been something I've been trying to work on.)

Here's the whole thing without the figs.

bad guys

good guys

Thank you for stopping by, comments and criticism is always welcome.
And of course, best of luck to my opponent Andrew!

Hi Eric, that is a shame. It was a hard one to call, I had you down for anywhere from 17-22 or 23. I'm afraid we do need another TFOL. Matt and I have already taken up the old guard quota. If I remove you from the group, I hope you don't take offence. Keep building brilliant MOCs!

Quoting David Alexander Smith Hi Eric. Long time fan of your work, especially the way you played the MocOlympics. Myself, Garret Smith and Matt RownTree are putting together a MocAthalon team and wondered if you wanted to join our team. For some reason I have in my head you are a TFOL , many apologies if I've got this wrong.
Thank you! it means a lot. :) Unfortunately I'll be turning 21 this spring, which means I've missed the quota for TFOL by a few years already. Don't worry though, there's no offense taken, I don't really have any information. :) If you're looking specifically for a TFOL, then you're out of luck, but if you need a AFOL, then I'd be happy to join your team!

You didn't get to advance, but still you can be very proud of this! It is very pleasing to the eye! :)

Stylistically, you've got Andrew beat. I love your part usages and textures. Unfortunately, Andrew's detail, functionality, and overall composition won him my vote. Well played, all the same!

Quoting David . This is pretty evenly tied. For build I'd go with Andrew, (but don't misunderstand, yours is really awesome too) but I think yours is WAY less stereotypical. I'd have built what Andrew built (again) if I'd have gotten the category. ;) But anywho. Yours explores the background of orcs more completely, and I think the judges may take a note for this being unique the judges. :) Good Luck!
I certainly appreciate the honesty! His was definitely very well constructed. I almost did something similar to what he did, and I'm glad that I didn't. Thank you!

This is a unique build with so much great texture. Unfortunately, your opponent outdid you here with his size, despite which he still retained high quality details. Great concept, but your opponent has my vote.
