Matthew Bellamy's (MUSE) Manson MB-1
My third guitar. It's 20% cooler and can sound as the real one, seriously :D
About this creation
Welcome back, guys!

I want to introduce you my brand new guitar - Manson MB-1. It is life-size model of Matthew Bellamy's (Muse frontman) instrument. As usual, all pictures are clickable and have a full-size copy (I don't know why, but MOCpages makes all uploaded pictures awful, that's why all of them have been moved to flickr):

Its size: 103 cm in length, 33 cm in width, ~2 kilos in weight.

Let's look through the history of making this guitar =)

As usual I found some references of the real Manson's guitar. Thanks to it I put on the couple of A4-sheets shapes of the instrument and made a template:

I wanted to make the third guitar fully tunable, that's why I made a small gearbox for tensioning the strings. You can see below its technical drawing and real photo of the first mechanism. Because of using worm gear it had quite low gear ratio, but it was compensated by 4 wheel-gears with different number of teeth.

Soon I realised that it was a wrong idea. This gearbox has been disassembled and works on the guitar have been continued =)

So, let's have a look on the guitar's accesories:

  1. Kaoss X-Y Midi Screen Controller. Made of tensioned food paper over flat tiles

  2. Switches for the sustainer (neck)

  3. Volume and tone controllers

  4. 3-way pickup selector

  5. Manson MBK 2 pickup

  6. 3-way toggle killswitch

  7. Fernandes Sustainer FSK-101

Overview of the headstock:

IT IS POSSIBLE TO PLAY THIS GUITAR AS A REAL ONE! I'm serious, tensioned ropes with different width produce realistic sounds.

Fretboard with 22 frets has complicated shape in the place of connecting with the deck:

Another overview of the instrument:

Thanks for watching! Also check out the other guitars =)

Thanks =) MUSE's live performances are incredible. And these videos helped me with guitar references
Quoting Nick Brick ;-D Unbelievable! I want to hear it.
I've just tried to record something. It's a shame to post such an awful video on the Youtube (because I can't play the guitar :D), that's why video has been uploaded on the Dropbox. There are main riffs of Skillet - Whispers In The Dark and Deep Purple - Smoke On The Water (:D) - https://www.dropbox.com/s/y6k4xfsebw5plu8/sample.zip
Quoting lone wolf Nice guitar! I wish I had enough parts to make one like that. Guitar is my life, Lego is secondary.
Well, it needs ~ 1000-1500 details for hard and solid deck and some gears for tuning mech... I can try to finish LDD model if you want =)
