This is my entry for the 2013-14 Middle Earth Lego Olympics
About this creation

Riddle: 5. The thing all things devours; birds, beasts, trees, flowers; gnaws iron, bites steel; grinds hard stones to meal; slays king, ruins town, and beats high mountain down!
(Answer: Time)

When I saw the categories, I decided to go with this riddle and make a clock face out of it. Originally, I was going to make the creation with teeth all around it, but I didn't have enough pieces... Then I decided to make these four black figures and have them attached to the clock with chains, showing how time defeats everything and enters every part of life on earth... I think it turned out awesome! When I browsed MOCPages after I built this, I was surprised to see how many people had the same idea!

The clock face:

I made the creation in four parts, corresponding to the riddle.

The thing all things devours; birds, beasts, trees, flowers;

Gnaws iron, bites steel; grinds hard stones to meal; slays king,

Ruins town,

And beats high mountain down!

These are random photos of the build from here on.

On a side note, when you push a key into the door, a light brick comes on, lighting up the inside of the house... (Ooh... Aah...) :P

These next few pictures explain why I chose to make the "dark figures" with each section of the build.

The first section that I built was a small house (representing a town). I used a ninja-like minifigure for this part since he is like a bandit, (part of the different ways that ruin a town).

For this part of the build, I drew inspiration from the Witch King of Angmar. I showed this dark figure walking in the midst of a small skirmish, in which a king is about to die...

For this part of the riddle, I used a Grim Reaper type of minifig since he has a scythe. He is sort of like harvesting the trees, flowers, etc.

For this one, I wanted the dark figure to have some sort of cool looking hammer thing, I got the inspiration from Dwalin's weapon in the Bag End LEGOŽ set.

One last look at the clock hands...

The thing all things devours; birds, beasts, trees, flowers;
gnaws iron, bites steel; grinds hard stones to meal;
slays king, ruins town, and beats high mountain down!

God Bless! Thanks for looking!

I saw the big section as a smile, the rocks/trees as eyes, and the clock in the middle as a nose. So it was indeed a face. XD Nice one, Andrew! :D

lovely look! I agree, I am surprised at how many people did variations on this theme. I think that yours, so far, has been one of the best interpretation.
