just had to try and build one of these amazing aircraft.built purely out of megabloks exceptfor the guns mechanical parts, just goes to show what you can do with inferior pieces, cant imagine what it must have been like in the war flying these(a lot of respect to them),seen a few films featuring these so it would be nice to make one,it fell apart a good few times with the weight of the wings etc, hardest part was getting the wings to tilt upwards, not finished underneath but havent tried to turn it upside down incase it falls apart again,4 motors power the props direct drive, unfortunetly i dont have the right colour pieces to put flaps etc,its fragile enough, concentrating on shape and look, hope you like it,thanks to Nate Flood for inspiring the use of motors in planes
There are some nice LEGO B-17s out on the internet, and each one of them excels at different aspect, but yours is the first one that has that overall accurate, authentic look. It is exceptionally hard to capture all those tricky shapes that this curvy fortress possesses, but you somehow managed to suceed at it. Yes, the engines were build to fit the working motor, so you had to make some compromises, but even this doesn't break the amazing impression. As some other have already mentioned, the turrets are great, a lot of builders tend to force not so well suited translucent pices into their MOCs, but you've cleverly chosen another path. Very good job, you destroyed my idea of building this plane... :)
The coloring, the design, the whole thing is great! The engines are a very nice touch. One thing I did notice are the vacant windows in the back sides of the fuselage. Would have thought the guns would have been there. A minor detail though that takes nothing away from a job well done!
Very nicely done! Hats off to you sir! Mega does have some really nice colors that can be used to create beautiful models such as this. Speaking of B17 movies - make a German BF 109 and recreate A Higher Call for a beautiful diorama. I had heard they were making a movie out of the book and can't wait to see it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RkVc5o1UXAA
I came across a few used 'inferior brand bricks' before, in some used lots and collections, I am not surprised it s frail, most of the elements I encountered where not useable, they did nt stick, the plane looks fine, the running engines are very cool, a fine addition to your impressive layout.
Really great job! I like how you were able to use bricks to form decals on the fuselage (on mine, I used homemade stickers). I also really like how you were able to incorporate motors and how you made the studs flow smoothly across the whole plane. Fabulous job! 5/5! :)
I think this is the best B-17 MOC I've ever seen. This is an incredibly difficult plane to build (why I haven't attempted it yet). Great job on the turrets, most people mess up on those. Only thing is the engines are too wide, but I see why you had to make them like that.
