One Big MOC 2
Industrial diorama from the 1980´ies.
About this creation
Professionally I work with industrial automatization, and have visited lots of different types of plants. I´m always fascinated by the installations and logistics necessary to make a big factory work.

Normally I like to do my MOCs to scale, but this time there is no way that I could do a realistic representation of what you are about to see. What I show here in a couple of meters, would definitely take more than 500 meters of factory production lines to do in real life!
So this MOC is not to scale, and neither is it a reproduction of any particular plant.

Overview from street-side of the MOC:

Same view as above, but through a minifigs eyes;

A view of the older boiler-house, with a portal crane and rail road connection. The rail continues inside the big factory building.
Also added to the old blue building, is a new and modern reception for people entering the area;

***

All the previous photos, is what people initially see when they encounter the diorama at the exposition. It’s an aesthetically nice and clean build (-or at least I think so), so that the spectators are surprised by what they find, when they walk around the stand, to see the other side of the diorama;

(Click on the photo to see a larger version, or visit my BrickShelf folder to see full-size photos)

A totally over-the-top detailed factory floor, showing one of the main events of car-maufacturing; “The Wedding”. (When the motor joins the rest of the car)
As my factory depicts the classic manufacturing of the good old Citroën 2CV, the sharp limit between chassis and body is clearly visible. Todays modern technologies with self-supporting framework and chassis integrated in the body has already rendered this method obsolete a long time ago… Still, for almost 100 years (stretching it a little here) the shown method has been the preferred way to build automobiles!

Here are some close-ups of the small scenes in the interior.

Here you can verify the authenticity of the diorama;

The video is from a factory in Portugal, but as it is basically without words, understanding should be no problem… ;-)

Administrative and “other” areas are also reproduced, using “cut-out” walls to allow visual access to these parts;

Data:
Building time: May to November 2013
Measurements: 3x11 road-base plates
Vehicles: 20 2CV´s in different states of termination
10 different cars, trucks, buses
2 rail-vehicles
Minifigs: 50. In multi-ethnic flesh-tones. No “yellows”

The layout has been showed at the HispaLUG Expo in Madrid, and is currently at display in Bilbao, as part of the exhibition “Toys for all life”. (“Juguetes de toda la vida”).

Amazing! Somehow I've missed this ... Okay, now I see what it is. Lots of great detailing, and I love the idea as such and the idea of an open back, this is something I'm thinking of, too. Great work, always inspiring!

Hey Henrik:-), that's an awesome layout! I love the 2CV assembly line:-) Of course you just had to... :-) One's gotta do something with all of those cute little things if one has about 15 of them! Great stuff! Weirdly, you didn't show up as one of my favorite builders anymore, even though your are and always have been. So I just added you again:-) Best regards, Steffen

Well, I haven´t thanked you all for your very nice comments; Thanks a lot for those!!! I know that a long time has passed since this was presented, so probably almost none of you guys will be back to read this comment. Oh well... It was almost impossible for me to get a decent photo of this MOC. Even with two different cameras, I couldnt get a really good pic. (so it must be ME who is doing something wrong, then... ;-) As you can imagine, it is close to impossible to present all the little details and scenes, as there are just too many. I think this was also a problem during the expositions; Nobody has enough time to hang around one single construction, so as to find everyhting in it. I should really scale down on the amount of details, as they are simply impoosible to appreciate in huge dioramas such as this. (Much easier to see all the details of f.ex. one single car with no disturbing surroundings) Regarding the TLCB feature; Those guys were really nice, accepting the diorama for a special feature without even having seen it! I hope I didnt betray their trust in me! LOL I´ll be back really soon with a totally new and different style MOC!

Wish I lived there and could see this in person. I love all the cars, and the assembly plant is really detailed. I doubt I'll have the parts to build anything like this anytime soon, but hopefully I will get my car dealership built soon. You should be really proud of this.

Utterly utterly brilliant. One of the MOCs of not just the year, but the whole of MOCpages history. 10/10 - it's as perfect as any MOC could be - each one of the vehicles is 5 star model on its own! Congratulations on the special feature on the Car Blog too, really well deserved!

Great scene, and huge, too! Really love how all the steps in the factory are shown; now, would this be in France or Portugal? If I'm not mistaken, 2cv production was moved to Portugal in the late 80's. Anyways, great MOC, very nice seeing it made about my favorite car. Thanks for posting!

As always, it's magnificent! The overhead ventilator on the assembly line was a very well placed detail, and I found the cut away walls in the offices to be a creative and effective approach to the challenge of detail verses visibility. Great stuff and perfectly photographed as well. Attack!

:-))) It's like some sort of Nick heaven! Absolutely glorious, in every little detail; the way you represent the 2CV's labour intensive production methods - it suited a time when labour was cheap and materials expensive. By the end of it's life though, it did cost more to make than the AX it turned into at the end of the video. Happy days! MOC of the year.

Nice nostalgic glimpse back to before the financial crisis and climate change. The Factory hall is really nice detailed and spot on. I saw the You-Tube video, it has some funny scenes with the man who jumps out of the car, with the steeringwheel in his hand, and the demonstration of the simple hinges. Finally, I wish you a Happy New Year.

From the beginning to the end seeing a citron being built . Nick Barrett is going to love this. The offices look awesome ! I love how the chassis are moving along being worked on right down to the stack of chairs lined up to go into the cars. This is mind blowing awesomeness!
