I snap on the TV to the news. I've had a relaxing Christmas day so far and now just want to see what's up with the world. I see a newscaster looking extremely scared and anxious. Frowning, I turn the volume up so I can hear him better.
Newscaster: Some strange sort of computerized message. Apparently, Earth only has 16 2/3 seconds left before it's destroyed. We are doing all we can to trace this, but nothing ha worked. More to come later.
I'm freaked out, but calm myself down. There's only one thing I can do. I have to build a time machine in 15 minutes. This way I don't have to live for only 1000 seconds.
I climb to my basement and get to work.
15 minutes later...
The news flickers back on a minute later.
Newscaster: There has been another message! All it read was: "40 seconds."
I take a deep breath, an climb into the time machine. Hopefully I just go back a few years. I close the glass covering and flick the switch.
And black out.
I awaken, and open my eyes. I look down and almost scream. I'm outdoors, much taller, and wearing Roman armor. I scratch my chin. It's stubbly. Apparently, I got older, and went much farther back than I intended.
I look around at my surroundings.
I'm on a battlefield. Roman soldiers clash with some form of barbarians.
Well, I got myself into this.
