ABT Night Prowler (Based On 75000)
Well, you did ask for a non-rainbow Legoformer, and I have decided to deliver. Do not worry, though. This is not the epic Optimus Prime combo model I said I would make. That is still on the way. For now, enjoy this MOC with added instructions that are both LDD and IRL.
About this creation
I was out buying Christmas presents when I realised I had $20 to spare. I decided to do a little test run on my alternative build system that I’m planning for Christmas. So, I bought a set I’d already purchased. The set was the Star Wars 75000 Clone Troopers VS Droidekas. It takes place on Geonosis, and I really like the set (despite the terribly designed Droidekas, which have actually grown on me). I had the idea for doing this for a while, ever since I saw Yap Alan’s Alternative Design. So, I started building. I gave myself only one rule – use the helmet as the head. It took seven attempts, and six hours, to get to this final model. The first five attempts was trying to make it a jet. It never worked. On the fifth attempt, however, I realised it could look like a walker. Not like the AT-AT, or the AT-TE, or even the AT-ST. It was a completely a new type (not a Newtype from Gundam, just a new type of model). So attempt six failed, but attempt seven succeeded. I was just about to finish when I realised that if I turned the walker backwards, the front looked like a face. So, I tried adding extra pieces and look what happened! It became a liger transformer! For those who don’t know what the heck a liger is, it’s a cross between a lion and a tiger. They’ve existed in Japanese/Chinese folklore for centuries, and in some modern day cases people have actually bred them. As far as I know, however, all these attempts have been sterile (meaning they cannot produce offspring). Anyway, when I was done I remembered an old character I’d seen from the pre-MOCpages days. So, I named him after that. Night Prowler is named after an OC (original character) MOC by Mike Pick in a project to make Transformers based on the animals of the Zodiac. Other MOCs of his in the same line include Ryon Betta, another creation that I’m quite fond of. He may have made others, but they’re not on the pages.

Narrator (me): Somewhere in the galaxy, whether it be on Geonosis, my desktop bench or both at the same time, a battle of not-so-epic proportions is taking place…
Clone Trooper Commander: You’re going down, Droidekas!
Droidekas: Indescribable robotic screeching.

Narrator: It makes one wonder, would it be wise to follow the set instructions…
Clone Trooper: I’m hit! I think I’m dying.
Clone Trooper Commander: Your sacrifice will not be in vain.
Droidekas: Robotic laughing

Narrator: …or would it be wiser to create something never seen before…something new…something terrifying?
???: ROOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWRRRRRRRRRRRR!
Clone Trooper Commander: What was that?
Droideka #1: Unknown robotic noises translating to “The hell should I know?”

Narrator: And so, the beast descends, ready to wreck everything in its path.
Night Prowler: ROOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!
Clone Commander: HOLY S#%! RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!
Night Prowler: ROOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!

Narrator: And the cycle of creativity begins anew.
Spectre: Declan, what are you doing?
Declan: I’m narrating the story!
Spectre: What story?! It’s just a bunch of images of people running away.
Declan: Blame Lego, after all they’re the ones with the speeder obsession.
Spectre: What speeder obsession?
Declan: Well, every single set under $20 seems to have some kind of round speeder thingy!
Spectre: Um, that’s a command base.
Declan: Same design, therefore same thing.
Spectre: Whatever. Now, can you get on with the MOC.
Declan: Quiet, you, otherwise your V2 MOC won’t be in the Pick-A-Brick order for 2014!
Spectre: Whatever…

Okay, after that long and boring thingy-mah-jig, let’s get on with the actual MOC. So, here we have Night Prowler in his Cybertronian Liger mode. Basically, it’s the liger equivalent of Ravage’s panther, or Lazerbeak’s turkey.

A quick view from the side shows that the tail is basically the gun attached to the top.

An even quicker view of the top shows where the binoculars went.

Here’s a look at his face. After a while, he actually starts to look a little cute. Dunno why, though.

His mouth can open, to go ‘ROAWR!’, but it reveals the head.

Just a quick view of the tail/gun.

And now for the transformation! It’s not as complex as I would have hoped, but whatever.

First you remove the gun and set it to the side. You can make him hold it later in the robot mode.

Next you fold in the binoculars.

Then you fold the back legs to the side.

You need to stand him up for the next two steps steps.

First you move the legs out a little.

Next you fold in the tail holder.

The remaining steps take place up here.

First you fold down the lower arms.

Next, you fold out the teeth closest to the eyes.

Then you fold down the ears.

After that, you fold in the teeth you pulled out earlier.

Following this, you pull up the arms on the nozzle joints…

…and fold them down on the hinges.

Next, you bring down the mouth…

…the teeth…

…and the head.

Finally, you fold in the front legs.

And here we have Night Prowler in his robot mode! He has a Leadfoot-esque feel to him, because he’s fat but strong.

Just a view from the side.

I actually had a hard time putting extra kibble on the back, because without it he was both unbalanced and underdone.

The cool thing about this model is being able to give the remaining clone trooper twin guns!

On the topic of guns, the gun is more like a lance when he holds it.

Well, even though I think I’ve already answered it, here’s a question for you; who would win? The original Lego set or my newer version? Or perhaps the original that Mike Pick built would come in and become a negotiator? Who knows? Tell me what you think in the comments, along with praise for not having ‘rainbow syndrome’. Maybe a comment war about different people’s ideas will begin because of it…

For those who are too lazy to follow my instructions in pictures below, here’s a preview of the LDD which will be added shortly after posting the creation.

It’s a shame they don’t have the right helmet. Thankfully, though, no illegal techniques are needed for this MOC, so it fits in LDD nicely.

Here’s the actual picture-by-picture instructions. I won’t bother with a parts list, for you only need to buy the actual set for all the parts you need. There’s a mistake I made, but I corrected it halfway through. Anyway, enjoy! :)

Well, that’s all I’ve gotta post! Let me know what you think in the comment section below. Also, if you don’t know already, I’m taking two creator sets and Kai’s mech suit and combining them into Optimus Prime once I get the sets for Christmas, so stick around for that. Well, I’ve got nothin’ else to say! As always, happy building!

Quoting ~ Brick Much clearer pictures than normal! Also, color coordinated models look much better;) ~Brick
Quoting Halhi 141 I agree with Brick! Well done!
Thanks. It wasn't easy being restricted to certain parts. At one point, my usb got lost in the parts! :P
