L666 - Spectral Analyse Hopper
This is my entry to the awesome annual Classic Space Pocket Money Contest 2 hosted by the double duo Davids (3D) - David Roberts and David Alexander Smith. The Classic Space Pocket Money Contest II Executive Committee made a good job, so I can proudly present my entry now.
About this creation
Entry for Classic Space Pocket Money Contest 2

The Greytron Inc. take place somewhere between Futuron and M:Tron. While the Futurons are scientist and the MTrons are for Search,Rescue and Repair duties, the Greytron are a service for ressources and transports. In majority they search for ressources to provide any kind of supplies, the Futurons need.

My entry:

This is the L666 - Spectral Analyse Hopper. Its for searching for new raw material sources. Those small and very agile ships are controlled by geologic specialists which dont need a full laboratory. The SAHs are constructed to reach every area you may think off.
They have the ability to perform VTOL even in low atmospheres.
The main dishes are sensors with a range up to scans from low orbits. The side dishes provide addiotional scanner and communication.
For a closer look the SAHs land near the possible new raw material sources and use the detachable rover to drive.

The MOC comes with one minifig and a rover with attached dropship.
Part count is:
Dropship 56 parts
Rover 33 Parts
1 Minifig
Total 90 parts
Wheel parts are fully counted (tires, axes etc)
See also the LDD file.

The minfig got a custom greytron sticker!

Alternative 1
This is a stationary Rocket launch site with a controll rover with tracking radar.
The rocket brings a scanner-satelite to orbit.

Alternative 2
This is a refuel station with a small rover and an astro hopper VTOL.

Alternative 3
The third alternative is a remote controlled mobile rocket launcher.
The rocket brings a scanner aray to orbit.

Red and grey, one of my personal alternative colour schemes. I like the rover attachment to the front, and the overall feel of the build. The mix and match costume is fun. 8 I’m not sure the alternatives live up to the promise of the original quite. I do like the rocket base idea though. 6 The drop rover and working landing gear all open up plenty of play potential. 8 As an alternative take on CS that retains the spirit of the original I think you did a top job. 7

Obviously we're going to have to deduct a few points due to this MOC being built from parts raided from innocent spacemen :) I like how your colour scheme uses colour that were available in the 80s. Perhaps red & grey could have been the true CS colours? The idea of a combined buggy and flying machine is excellent. You've done a neat job of solving the connection problems too. The red fold-down arms help to secure the buggy and integrate it visually into the design. Perhaps you could have used your remaining part allowance to hide/smooth over the wheels? 8 I love how the support arms fold away from the rocket and the arms on the satellite fold out. Combined with the radar buggy, this is a fun and playable set in its own right. The refuelling station is a neat idea and a different type of base to the first alternative. The Astro Hopper reminds me of Rolls-Royce's "Flying Bedstead". Perhaps it would have nice to have seen a big, single piece spaceship as an alternative too. 8 I like how solidly built this model is. I also like how you've solved the engineering problem of using one Technic pin to connect the buggy but have also firmly stopped it from spinning: vital for swooshability. The standard construction style buggy looks good for zooming across floors & tables and surviving the occasional crash. Perhaps the playability could have been enhanced by making the winged section flyable, once the buggy has detached? Alternatively, what other play functions could have been added using those remaining 10 parts? Regardless, this is a strong, fun build! 7 I love the juxtaposition of the swept, aerodynamic wings and the massive, high-drag radar dishes. It seems to be highly CS to me. This is also one of very few (the only one?) buggies with the traditional fuel tanks on its front. The studs up construction adds to that 80s feel too. Great work. 10 Total 33

That's cool, excellent CS design! The style is so late 70s/early 80s, just how I like it :-)) The colour scheme could easily have been an alternative to the blue/grey/yellow one and the seperation function has a classic style, too. Great job! Good luck in the competion! :-))
