Bionicle Microfigures - Matoran Mata Nui Build Mark 2 & Matoran Metru Nui Build
Do you guys remember the original Matoran? You may remember them being called 'Tohunga', but due to it being an actual name in a language they had to change it. Well, there were many builds for the Matoran. There were actually two different ones for the Mata Nui Matoran. One was mainly a promotion at McDonalds, and had very little articulation. The other was a redesigned version with much more. There was also a different build for Metru Nui prequel. They were completely changed. The Mach 2 Mata Nui and the Metru Nui builds are the one's I'll be focusing on in this MOC. Other builds include six different Voya Nui builds (one for each member of the resistance), a Mahari Nui build and a Karda Nui build (which was also used for the Agori on Bara Magna). So, in total, there are eleven different Builds of Matoran. So far I've covered three, so I won't be building any Matoran next. But for now, enjoy this MOC.
About this creation

Here we have the Mata Nui Mark 2 Matoran. As a little joke, I gave him the mask of time! Of corse, any normal matoran would probably die as a result. But still, I did it as a joke, so who cares?

As you can see, the articulation has changed. It can no longer twist its hand, but it can now more it's shoulders properly. The legs are also different. They have the same articulation, which is absolutely nothing whatsoever.

I couldn't make the standard Kohli stick (if that's what it's called) properly, so I gave him a club/staff thingy. It fits onto the back easily, but getting it off is a bit of a pain.

It comes off like so. It's a lot harder than it looks. You have to thread it through instead of yanking it out, otherwise it'll fall apart.

It can easily hold the staff in his hand. He can also hold a Kanoka disk like takua, but since Takua is already holding it I won't show that.

Just as a point of reference, I'll show you the difference between the two builds. Here is the Mark 1 build. It can only move its arms in and out and its legs in the same way. This is what I based Takua on.

This is the Mark 2 build. It's the same Matoran (the same character, Jaller) but it's been updated. Its arms are on ball joints and so are the hands. The legs can also more up and down now as well as in and out.

Okay, moving onto the Metru Nui Matoran. It’s a lot bigger than the Mata Nui Build, just like the original. It was a bit hard to balance it, but in the end I think I got it right.

GIMMI THAT NIGHT FEVER NIGHT FEVER! **Clears throat** Sorry about that. After taking the photo I couldn’t resist. Anyway, the proper reason for this photo is that it shows the cool articulation of the arms.

The Matoran comes with one of those smaller disk launchers that each one got. I wish they had continued the disk launchers for a little longer instead of replacing them with spinners, then balls, then those torpedoes that only work a sixth of the time, then more balls, then those air pumps that work even less than the torpedoes, then fruit. I mean, come on! Thornax are basically fruit! Oh, look at me! I’ve got a fruit launcher! Anyway, the disks were by far the best. Too many balls. They’re even using them in Hero Factory.

The disk launcher doesn’t actually shoot any disks, but it does work okay. The disk is also smaller so that it can fit inside the launcher.

GIMMI THA- Nah, I won’t make that joke again. The disk launcher fits into his hand easily.

This is a little comparison with the official version. The pose I put it in when holding the disk launcher is very similar.

Here’s a good ol’ size comparison with Takua. This way you can see all three types of matoran- Mata Nui Mark 1, Mata Nui Mark 2 & Metru Nui.

And of course you can’t forget about the Rahkshi. After all, he’s my most popular MOC. That may change after Christmas though…

Here’s a little sneak peek on what’s to come. I’ve built a version of Vakama (the Toa, not the Turaga) but it’s too big. I’ll still post it, though. Here’s his disk launcher for now, though.

The same size disk as the Matoran’s fits in easily.

I added an extra gimmick that the original never had. It can open up and fold down for easy loading. It looks really cool in my opinion.

Before I finish, here’s a quick comparison with the official Bionicle version. Anyway, that’s all for now. Don’t forget to like, comment and add me as a fave builder. As always, happy building, and right now specifically (by now I mean when this was posted), merry Christmas!

Quoting Stormjay Rider I could like this, but the rainbow mode aspect turns me off. They do look like the originals though.
It's just how I do things. I don't have the funds to have a proper lego collection (as most of my cash goes towards my music). I'm doing okay for now, so I'll keep my methods.
Quoting Halhi 141 I agree with Stormy. It looks like you have a large enough collection to build at least a small MOC like this in good colors, so why not take the extra time to do it and make your MOCs look infinitely more appealing?
Your opinion is noted, but as I said I will continue doing things as I have done.
