Caleb's 4x4 Contest- Round 4: Night in the Slum
My entry to the 4th round of Caleb's 4x4 contest. Please share your advice and tell me what you think!
About this creation
Caleb's epic 4x4 Contest!
Category- "Slums"
Opponent- The skilled Halhi 141

This was a really tough build for me. The round was already underway when I got back from vacation and I was at a loss for ideas for quite a while. My first attempt was a micro-scale slum and mansion separated by a full size wall (A little forced prospective) but nothing was fitting in the 4X4 confines or looked at all like it was supposed to. So, eventually, I decided on a mid-city slum. Building was tedious and slow, it just wasn't coming together, but finally the work paid off! Enjoy!

The whole MOC.

(Close up shots of the different floors)
Street view. We see here a busted fire hydrant, long since shut off, and a closed bakery with an ax through the window in the door.

First apartment. Looks like this crook is trying to make his getaway!

The thief. I really like how the falling shutter looks with the thief there, and check out his dufflebag!

Top floor. Weathered bricks, a smashed and boarded up window, and a spiked banister badly cracked are among the 'decorations'. This area is jam-packed with clever details!

The designs. I'm very pleased with the new ideas I used for the roof and lamp. What do you think?

Inside. A festive garland has been put up around the window of the apartment, but, under the floor, we see a leak in the plumbing!

(Final pictures to prove adherence to the rules)

My signature: It's just within the height limit!

Hope you liked it!

A close call, but I liked the angles and dull colours of your opponent better. Awesome work and great detailing nonetheless!

Quoting George Marshall New judge here. This was actually a really, REALLY tough decision.
Thanks for the like George. I'm sorry you missed the craftsmanship of this MOC.

New judge here. This was actually a really, REALLY tough decision. I liked the design of it all, the thief, and the roof up top, but not much else was going on here. No major techniques were used, and most it was just stack bricks up to the top with a few outside details. Don't get me wrong, I liked it, but my vote resides with Halhi. Good luck next time, though!

This one is going to be tough....It's hard to choose between the complex textures of Halhi's build and the rich and varied details of your build. Before I continue, I just want to say that this could go either way. In the end, you have my vote! Good luck with the other judges.

This has been the toughest match-up to judge yet. You guys where so close in competition. You had some excellent details, with the inside of the house with the plumbing, the top floor especially. However, Halhi's textures won me over. His MOC was spotless. I'm sorry, but he gets my vote. Good luck with the other judges!

Where to start! I am dazzled by the numerous details. The piece usage prevents it from looking sloppy, and the many colors is eye-catching. Well done and good luck!

Quoting Matt Bace Really nice job, on all levels of the MOC. The little details that you have included, like the empty "adult beverage" bottle by the door are excellent. The axe through the window and boarded up window are just awesome ideas. Good luck with this one.
It's nice when people notice the little things about a MOC. Thanks Matt!
