M.I.P Pistrix: Middle Section
A month of blood (yes, I really cut myself on a piece during the process), sweat, tears, color-haggling, sketch-drawing, Skype-calling, post-officing, and nail-biting finally paid off as Max and I slid each of the three sections of the SHIP onto the central peg and clicked them into place. Voila! Here is the M.I.P Pistrix, an 105 stud long corporate cruiser built for SHIPtember. The piece was a collaboration between myself, Max Pointner, and Paul Vermeesch. The name of the SHIP is derived from the Latin word for "shark" because of the resemblance to a hammerhead. Featuring a distinctive light bley, dark tan, and dark red color scheme, the SHIP is an experiment in tricky angles, asymmetry, and plenty of greebles. Overall, I don't think we did too shabby for builders who rarely venture into sci-fi. In fact, we were so happy with how it came together, that you might see it at Brickworld 2014!
About this creation

For a closer look at the front of the SHIP, check out Max Pointner's section!

For a closer look at the back of the SHIP, check out Paul Vermeesch's section!

This SHIP (SHIP = Seriously Huge Investment in Parts) was built for a challenge/contest over on Flickr headed up by Simon Liu. The challenge was to build a hundred-stud long spaceship in only a month (September). You can check out all of the resulting spaceships here.

Below are some pics highlighting my section of the SHIP:

Greebles!

More greebles!

And more greebles!

And even more greebles!

Above are some of Paul and Max's sketches from the designing process. These were helpful as I had to connect their sections with my middle section.

Thanks for stopping by and Soli Deo Gloria!

that flanking greeble area on your section is quite surprising, especially the chain-links used. NICE! a deserving nod due as well to your partners & yours collaboration effort! NICE opening shot too!

A great bit of work. It's most impressive that you all built in such a homogenous style and that the joins between the different builders don't show. It must have taken a lot of organising and planning. My favourite feature of the SHIP is how its head has similar angles to the main hull but sits at 90 degrees. Super greebling too.

Nice ship! The color scheme is well-planned. I never could build a good-looking ship from LEGO bricks, but apparently you have learned well!

Quoting Bunny . Did you make this? And how long did it take? O.o Sorry if it says it in the introduction, cuz im too lazy to read it.
I built one third of it (the middle section). The SHIP was a collaborative project. To see who the other two collaborators were, try reading the 2 sentences beneath the first 2 pictures following the main pic. I trust you're not too lazy to do that. ;)

Stunning work by all three of you, and what I really like is the contrast between smoothly panelled parts and heavily greebled infill. It looks great.

Quoting Semperi Afendel Just like majority of your work, this is well done, and deserves a 5. How long did it take to design, in total?
Thank you, I'm glad you like it! The three of us tackled the project in a month's time.

Quoting Vladimir van Hoek Real cool design, but I have the feeling it is upside down... Consider it a compliment :)

Wow! Very impressive, especially considering you 3 aren't frequent sic-fi builders and that it was done in a month. The greebles look great! There's a nice blend between greebles and smooth sections throughout the ship which makes it look really cool. Great job!

Wow!! SHIPs are always hugely impressive, this one even more so for being a collaborative build but retaining such a unified appearance. There are certainly plenty of Greebles! I like the way that you have what looks like a very functional, heavily greebled core partially cladded by smooth armour/hull segments. First class!

Quoting Stephen Boe Does M.I.P. stand for Max, Ian, and Paul?
Bingo!
Quoting Grant Davis Hmm yeah I see those pictures now...
Thanks Grant! I'm glad everything is showing up for you now. Though in all fairness, I think I added the faded pic after you'd commented the first time.
Quoting Mark Kelso Beautiful, Ian. Love the textural blocking - the perfect aesthetic balance between the busy greebed out areas and the contrasting smooth sections. Great work!
Thank you Mark. That's high praise coming from an artist of your caliber!

Quoting Deus "Big D." Otiosus But hmm... Is this a TFOL MOC?
Technically it is. All of us are in our later teens.
Quoting David FNJ Oh, and don't forget the orange rod in the middle XD
Hah, right-o!
Quoting Grant Davis Maybe I am missing this, but I cant quite make out who's section is who's... All the pictures seem to be of the whole ship and not any small parts. Super jobz!
You should be able to see pictures of the separate sections in the second half of each post. Are they not showing up?
