Why tho theriouth?

Do you want to know how I got these thcars?

Looney Tunes, for me, equals fond childhood memories. My kids laugh when I tell them about only having three TV channels when I was their age. Regular viewing was The Muppets on Sundays. If I was really lucky though, five minutes would need filling in the schedule between a western and Sportsday and suddenly BAMM!! My whole family and me would be wrecking ourselves laughing at Wile Coyote and Roadrunner, or Yosemite Sam, or Elmer Fudd. Looney Tunes, Merry Melodies and Tom & Jerry were treats to be savoured and they stay with me even now.

The ultimate double act though, was Daffy and Bugs. Bugs is cool. Clooney-in ‘From Dusk ‘Til Dawn’ -cool. Unflappable, smart and seemingly unbeatable.

Daffy on the other hand, is unhinged and unreasonable, demanding and abrasive. An agent of chaos and Bugs’ perfect foil.

A suave hero, unbeatable despite having no special powers, and a cackling weirdo who despises him and throws himself into beating him at every chance. Where do I know those character traits from? ;)

The idea to portray Bugsman and Laffy here came out of my initial desire to build ‘Reservoir Bugs’ with Porky tied to a chair and Bugs with a straight razor. My wife reminded me that wasn’t slapstick (more like torture apparently – spoilsports…) so I rattled around a few more alternate scenarios until the ‘Why Tho Therious?” line settled in my head.

Also, necessity is the mother of invention – I quickly realised I had very little orange (hence the brick separator feet) so an excuse to recolour Daffy was beneficial. I picked a pie as the epitome of slapstick, but added the necessary Joker AND Looney Tunes edge with a bomb in there.

Since he joined our LUG I have had the chance to have a chat with Matt. We are fortunate enough to have a member’s forum on our LUG website where we’ve exchanged a lot of banter, especially over this contest. I am very lucky to have people right around the world with which I can share my hobby (and in Bart’s case, buffalo wing recipes!) and trade jibes and opinions and Matt has settled in to our LUG and this contest like an old hand. Although we have both been a bit more cagey this round….. Good luck to you mate, you’ve built really well every round and it’s been a pleasure to build against you. I can’t wait to see what you’ve built!

Round 6 and my minifigs have now decided I have deserted them due to lack of use in this competition…..

I hope to see you in R7.

Yours,

The Delatron

It looks like we ended up finding a different AFOL for our team, but thanks for considering it anyways! Good luck if you choose to participate.

Hey Stu. Great MOC, and think that Bugs and Daffy fit in as Batman and The Joker respectively pretty awesomely! Hey I was wondering if you were planning on participating in the MocAthalon this year. If so I would like to invite you to my team in which we are still missing another AFOL and would be honored if you would join us. Thanks and let me know!

You may not have come out on top, but the battle was epic! Anyone else and this would have been your ticket of another Finals. Beautifully sculpted characters and great use of the orange separator tools! ~H

Superb build, Stu! I'm sorry for you but getting to round 6 two years in a row isn't that bad, uh? :) And I must admit Matt's build was flawless... Looking forward for your own contest, keep on mocing!

Stu, your characters are wonderful! So many comments have already addressed what I saw and admired in them. I think my favorites are both Bugs’ and Daffy’s tootsie toes! It was also a fun touch to add the carrots hanging from Bugs’ utility belt. I offer my congratulations to you for traveling sooo far in the contest! Cheers! :)

I love your bugs bunny, the shaping of his face is awesome. Both you and Matt had great builds, my vote goes to him as well, but incredible job nonetheless! Congrats on an amazing run this year! :)

Brilliant parts usage here, Stu - you've really nailed the form on these guys. Love the mix of subjects, too. The Joker's persona could hardly be a more fitting match for that legendary feathered lunatic. Nice one!

Haven't seen Matt's yet, but I totally love this! Funny, yet an excellent example of your skill and dedication. With more people like you in the world, there'd be more people like you in the world.

Thanks everybody for the kind words - even the judges (BOOOOO!!! HISSSSS!!!) because despite the alarming score (I fully expect it to be 6-0 when Annie votes, because I would have voted for Matt too) I don't feel like a loser and am very proud of the figures and all my builds in the games this year. It's been a lot of fun and i wish Matt and either Nick or Blake the best of luck for the final. 1 more build for me before winter hibernation - Secret Santa time!

I'm sorry for the short comment, but I'm a bit in a hurry and buried in work. Stu, you are the master of cartoon characters, but this time, Matt has beaten you, but only by just a little. He gets my vote, but you were both amazing.

Oh wow Stu, the sculpting of these guys are phenomenal! The mouth on Bugs and his fluffy cute feet and Daffy's little suit just make me grin with joy. These guys must be huge! I love the way you've sculpted the fabric of Bugs' cape where it hits the ground. These would look great on permanant display on my mantlepiece... just sayn'.

Stu, This is another brilliant build from you, but it looks like Matt has the four votes to advance. By my count, you have 14 head to head victories in the MocOlympics which is VERY impressive (and possibly the highest of all time. But let's talk about this build... Daffy is spectacular, particularly the sculpting of the beak and his rear end. I obviously love Bugs, but would have liked to seen a bit more sculpting on the body - kinda two dimensional... :) It is a great concept and so true to who you are, so you should be proud of that. Sorry you didn't get to use minifigures, but you've certainly shown that you are very skilled without them. While you may have come up short, I thoroughly enjoyed yet another epic run by you. ~Dave

Man, I am totally loving this category! Your build and matt's have really brought back some great memories. These characters are fantastic. There's some really great NPU going on here, especially with the brick separators on Daffy's feet, and the shaping of both characters is superb. I'm glad that I'm not a judge.

I woke up this morning to some superb builds. Thanks for giving me such a tough job all round. This one was really hard to judge. Your character building for me is second to none, but Matt's capture of the gag in bricks got my vote. Close call though.

This probably sounds trite by now, but you semi-finalists have blown my mind! Utterly brilliant performances all around! Having played in the MOs before, I know how tedious Round after Round can begin to feel. The fact that you chaps are going stronger than ever—I’d go so far as to say that this Round has produced the best in show thus far—is a testament to each of your masterful abilities with the brick. Bravo! But as you're well aware, I unfortunately have to pick between you and your opponent's entries. If the Round had been strictly based on character design, I think you'd have my vote Stu. As that's not the case however, my vote goes to Matt. It was a tough choice, but in the grand scheme of things I think he better captured the category. Incredible showing all the same Stu, and good luck with the remaining judges!

I simply cannot put into words how amazing both of your entries are. You guys took this round to a whole new level! Having to choose a winner is like having to choose between rabbit season and duck season! ARGH! I'm going to have to lean towards Matt on this one. His complete scene just pulled it together a bit more for me. Good luck with the other judges! ~ Chris.

Haha, brilliant! Love the idea here, and very well executed. Daffy in particular is superbly built, and the carrot-a-rangs are awesome. However, I enjoyed Matt's entry a little more, mostly for the immersive surroundings. He has my vote, much as I wish you could both advance.
