My entry for the 1st MOX PRIZE -- Space Superiority Fighter
About this creation
Building Lego is like running. When you’ve been 6 months off, you’re feeling rusty…
Anyway, Ron L. Mitchell’s Mox Price was just like a big slap. I had to do something. And here it is.
Exploriens were pacific people. Working for and through science for centuries, they suffered more than any other living soul from the Space Pirates’supremacy. After years bending under threats and assaults, they reacted.
They developped a powerful defense system all around their Home planet. The sentry is one of their last creation : a superiority fighter which pilot is an android.
Androids have no fear, need no food or supply, no rest and have proven to be efficient.
The sentry is a mono-seat compact fighter. The survival kit is reducted to the smallest system, enough for androids to work.
Small vehicles are inspired by small SW little speeders I made 3 years ago.
An android receiving his last instructions before a 3 days flight -the autonomy of its fighter- by his Captain.
The sentry is designed for attack and just attack. Compact, very agile and heavily armored, but it has no magnetic shield (in order to gain space).
For dog fight: 4 plasma cannons. Short range but very destructive against shield and fighters or small corvettes.
The Sentry has no luminic speed hability for it is always flying around its Home planet. The two Jaures thrusters give high velocity in space though.
Weaponry: For long range attack, two Infra-Red missiles "Fire and forget".
The top "wings" fold to liberate missiles. They are ejected when launched.
The opened or closed wings do not influence in any way the quality of flight. They just provide a complete armor, just like an oyster...
Landing and take-off configuration.
20 of them are released yet. Two Space Pirates Wolf have already been vaporized, bringing a good relief to Exploriens people.
Some pics with lighting effects (my first try). The sentry is ready to take-off.
My bengalow has been hosting an new adorable little kitty for two months. Ruby is always ready to discover new toys, tasting new toys, scratching new toys... hem!
She feels like home! :)
"AAAAAARGH!! The incredible saber-tooth tiger from the Godzilla Planet!!!!!!"
What a pleasure to come back and get to build again with this little fighter...
That's all, folks! Enjoy and feel free to comment, they will be most appreciated.
Thank you SO MUCH to Ron for his brilliant idea. Waiting for the next year...
Good work! The blocky shape is one I'm normally not so fond of, but here it's don so well, with perfect angles and texture that it's impossible not to love. It doesn't really match the fragile look that the original Explorien sets had, but I like this better. It looks much more like the type of vehicle you would send somewhere you knew nothing about.
To Shifu (it's a real honnor), David A. (If I could have only half of your creativity), Big D. (Thanks for you fair comment!), David R. (Yes, it is a big radar), Michal (happy to share this favorite theme with you), Matt (Thank you so much!), LukeClarence (I appreciated you stopped by), Kevin (thank you!). Thank you to you all. I've never had so many comments.
Aside from fact that Exploriens are my very favorite theme, this fighter is sweet. I like how you used that little room in wings to hide some missiles, as well as usage of that Explorien-typical wing elements. Also cockpit color is very nice.
To JWG 258, Nick -always there-, Clayton, Chris (appreciated!), Cyberfrank (cocoricooo!), Dr. Monster, Tim C (good luck to you too), Stuart (I agree for exploriens), Mister Keith Goldman (it's a great honnor!!), Topsy (I know "vaporized"... in the middle of the deep space.^^).
Thanks so much to you all for stopping by and leaving nice comments. It's a pleasure to read them.
Hey, nice lights! I was wondering 'where's the secondary weapon system?' and then got down to the folding wings... good design, always pleasing to see one of the more neglected CS themes getting a run-out!
I like it

Great MOC! The ship has an interesting shape to it, and the base and crew look super.
Really cool little ship. I like how you took what could have been a simple shape and added so many little complexities to it. The hidden missiles are especially a treat. Well done, and good luck in the contest.
Just as I was wondering where the long range weapons are, it opened up like an oyster... this is an exceptionally neat and well designed craft, best of luck to you in the contest! P.S. Very cute kitty :-)
