A US Coast Guard-inspired design for a Vic Viper.
About this creation
First, I should mention that this MOC represents a foray into new territory for me, since I have pretty much avoided the realm of science fiction (or any type of fiction, for that matter) when choosing subjects for my MOCs. But since it is NNoVVember, I felt inspired to try my hand at something different.

This MOC is basically my answer to the question, "What would a Vic Viper look like if it were built by the US Coast Guard?" That allowed me to stay a little bit within my comfort zone, since most of my recent MOCs have been Coast Guard ships and aircraft. My idea in designing this Viper was to keep the prongs and wings clean and simple, much like the hull of Coast Guard cutter, while making the cockpit a look like the pilot house. The central fin is based on a ship's mast, complete with a sensor array.

Great concept for a Vic Viper. It does, indeed, resemble both a Viper and an Earth boat. And who says there are no coasts in space? There very well could be, depending on how we define them, and if there are coasts, they might need some guarding.

I love your take on the Vic Viper! I had to smile at the anchors. I think the bridge looks awesome. Great looking fighter.

Quoting Nick Barrett A truly unique take on the Vic Viper idea, and a real beauty.
If you think this is unique, wait until you see my next one :-)

Thanks, everyone, for the comments. Based on the good feedback I've gotten for this one, I've decided to do another one (some pics are already up on my Flickr pages; when the renders are all done, I'll post it here as well).

David said it best, a brilliant mash up! Truly cool idea and a color scheme fitting of an entire space fleet. Love the engines and the exhaust nozzles. The bridge perfectly recalls a Cutter. Fantastic!

A brilliant mash-up of sea going vessel, spacecraft and the USCG colour scheme. I can imagine this cruising through space, having all sorts of adventures. Great fun and great design too!

Unmistakably a coast guard vessel, and the most unique VV i have seen this year.

very creative outcome! The space anchors are cool, very handy if you get too close to a singularity!

Quoting Luke V This is different, but why "Coast" Guard. You are now in space... XD Great job!!!
Coast Guard is a bit of an anachronism, much like the Marines (who are almost never inserted by boat anymore -- usually by helicopter -- and often defend locations nowhere near the sea). Perhaps I should have said "Frontier Guard",

Quoting sam the first haha! nice twist, i really like it! can you help with rendering files? i tried, but it came up with 'the disk cannot be written to because it is write protected. please remove the write pretection from the volume LDD to POV-Ray Includes in drive Device 0000076' when i clicked on run. what does this mean?!
I believe that problems like this are not uncommon. One thing to try is to right click on LDD2POVRay and then select "Run as administrator".
