Bracket 1: Build a spaceship based on kitchen appliance or any other household appliances. Need inspiration? Have a look at Boba Fettís Slave 1, the flying flatiron. Size doesnít matter, but is should be obvious which appliance(s) served as model(s).

Blake's beautiful entry.

Hey everyone,

Well, I didn't even have time to think about the MO until today. That should give you an idea how my week went...

Anyways, I only had an hour and a half to build my MOC from scratch. This is what I came up with. I know it isn't' that good, and I'm disappointed that I didn't have time to work more on this. As you can see, I built a "coffee ship." Please excuse the bad lighting on the pics and let me know what you think.

Blake, your entry is fantastic! You never cease to amaze me and it's a real honour to be competing against you! I've admired your MOCs for a few years, and it's a dream to actually be building against you in Round 5.

Now, the coffee-bulky-square-ship!

Green power at it's finest....maybe!

Once again, thanks to Mr. Phipson and the judges for making this all happen.

Thanks for viewing everyone!

~Mark

Wow! That's the same coffee maker my mom has! Must be very popular, if someone in Canada has it too! :D Great work! I can't believe you faced off Blake! Wow.

Hey Mark! I understand that, like any TFOL, you are very busy. However, if you have a little bit of time, I would like to ask you to be one of the judges for my 4x4 contest. We are currently on round 4 of 5, and one of our judges disappeared :P If you don't have the time, I understand! Thanks for considering :)

Awesome! Just so you know there are some problems in the HUGE fans of LEGO. I made everyone a admin so that they could invite people, but then someone removed me so I demoted everyone like one minute later. So now it looks like the group is someone else so I'm gonna demote you for a second. I hope you understand! ~Bill

very well executed replica of the coffee maker. Without aerodynamic considerations, really any shape will work for a spaceship! And hey, you had me at coffee

Sorry you got eliminated, Mark. You did an incredible job and made it the fifth round, against Blake Baer, no less! You should be proud of yourself and I can't wait to see how you're going to do next year!

Quoting Alex Rode Ah . . . great run Mark. Making it to the likes of Blake Baer, Nick Barrett is not too shabby. Very well done; you've made excellent use of the talent God has given you with bricks.
Thank you very much Alex! Your support has been incredible! My original goal was to make it to the second round. I can't believe I made it to the quarter-finals! Getting eliminated is always disappointing, but loosing to Blake is more of an honour than a disappointment! ;)

Quoting Delatron 3000 Well, if this is a 1 1/2 hour build of a coffee maker then it's world-beating! Seriously, the speed I build at I simply couldn't get that done and I love the accuracy. Sadly you didn't have any time to turn that sweet coffee maker into a starship, because if you had a bit more of that in the build I think you would have beaten Blake based on the category. Good showing in the contest overall, well done.
Thanks for the great comment! Good luck in round 6!

Like Blake, you missed the category a bit. Sticking trans-blue pieces on the bottom have having algae in the filter doesn't really make a spaceship... As you were both equally off the mark in category interpretation, my vote comes down to aesthetics. Blake's smooth curves and powerful colour use earn him my vote, though your life-size coffee machine is very well done. Perhaps a less blocky design with a convincing pot would have changed my mind.

Well I think both you and Blake did something close to the category; neither really embraced its full potential though. I do think I can judge though. This is a coffee machine that has some thrusters on it, rather than the epic coffee maker cruiser it could be. If this were a build a coffee maker category you'd score highly; but there just isn't that much spaceship there at all. But there is a spaceship of sorts, just not enough to get my vote. Sorry I'm going with Blake.

Looks just like a coffee machine!
  November 11, 2013
Well, Mark, like I told Blake already, I donít see how either your or his entry matches the category well enough, though you went both in completely different directions in extreme ways. Therefore I can neither vote for your really great coffee machine, nor for Blakeís really beautiful Vic Viper. My fellow judges might see it different and that is okay. In case we need a third vote, Iíll ask Chris for a substitute judge for this round and category.

Great idea to do a coffee machine, and certainly instantly recognizeable. Pity you didn't have time to make it more spaceship-y as well! Blake's amazing entry seems to me to go too far the other way, it will be interesting to see what the judges make of it. Good luck and congratulations on making it at least this far in your first MO!

Pretty nice! The cleanliness of it is nice, but kind of plain. I understand that you had little time to build, but I just wish you could have actually made a ship based off the appliance instead of basically replicating it. But I do agree with Alex, you be proud of yourself, you made it to round 5! If I had gotten this far, I would likely be crying with joy! Can't wait to see who wins this matchup! Good luck!

Quoting Alex Rode Don't be so hard on yourself. I'm sure every single MOCer can identify; having too much life to deal with and too little Lego time. This is a great build! The interior is fantastic! Its accuracy is pin-point. But Mark, I just gotta summarize this. You're 15, been on MOCpages not even a year. First time in MO you make it to round 5. That's absolutely remarkable, and you should be proud. Best of luck with the judges! As for me, I've decided to step down from most contests (excluding Caleb's 4x4) and focus solely on Gypsy. I'll be posting WIP pics soon. Wow, sorry about the length, but I have so much to say. Well done, man!
Thanks a lot Alex! I can't wait!

Quoting David . Nioce one! It, uh, yeah, it looks very like the real coffee maker. But adding enigines to the bottom and call it a space-ship just seems.... Eh. I think you got the category better than Blake, but I think his looked more... "Space-shipish" Good luck!
You hit the nail right on the head. Blake's is a perfect ship, mine is more of an appliance. Thanks David!

Quoting matt rowntRee Ha! As a true worshipper of the almighty coffee maker, I love the accuracy you achieved here. I see a tremendous amount of fun potential here worth exploring. The adventures of Captain Barista and his caffeinated crew have some real possibilities. My old Art teacher would call this a "good start", I think you grasped the concept well enough, but a bit more time exploring some wild and crazy notions for humorous effect would have paid off in the end and be more dynamic. Still a wonderful job Mark and best of luck!
