Zion, a last human city of over 250,000 humans, is actually a massive series of caverns deep under the ruined planet's surface, close to the planet's core for warmth, power, and protection. To the understanding of the human goverment living there, the location of Zion is unknown to the Machines until when they found their way into it through the Dock.
Zion is besieged by hundreds of thousands of Sentinels, those autonomous killing machines that patrol the ancient sewers and passageways of the dead human cities of old in search of Zion hovercraft or wandering, defenseless humans unlucky to be walking in the tunnels.
The defense was lead by Captain Mifune, the head of Zion's Armored Personnel Unit (APUs). He led his APU's into battle with the Sentinels and boosted the morale of his troops by saying, "If it's our time to die, it's our time. All I ask is, if we have to give these bastards our lives, we give 'em hell before we do!" Mifune was one of the last 13 APUs left standing during the battle; he fought bravely taking down many Sentinels.
(Source: Matrix Wiki, because I wasn't strong enough to watch the full movie...)
The scene was inspired by this video:
Mifune's APU in battle-readied stance.
Sentinel (original picture I used for the lead picture edited by "Chaar-Lee" for fun, please don't consider it as part of my MOC).
(Unfortunately there are no more pictures because after I've taken the first few ones I pushed down the whole MOC from the table and it scattered to hundred pieces. I've rebuilt the APU for a picture but my nerves suffered permanent damage...)
Thank you for the comments, it means a lot. To be honest I'm very disappointed, I messed up this round very badly, I think it was my weakest MOC during the competition.
See you in 2014, thanks for the fun!
Tough luck on not advancing Zoltan, but you should be proud of the build regardless. The photo of the action with the bridge section, APU and sentinel looks like a collectors display set that you might see in a comic store, really nice. Well done.
When I was still deciding what to build, this was one of the scenes I considered... great job, I'm glad we didn't go for the same scene! The way you've constructed the walkway and the sentinel bits strewn around are great, sorry to hear it got smashed :-/
Quoting MCLegoboy !
Oh, and by the way, I love your comment to Chris Roach. They do look like Mega Blok bases, I don't know why TLG thought to make those things other than to look like volcanic rock for the BIONICLE story.
Actually LEGO used the same mold (in dark bluish gray) once more in 2008 for set 7739. http://www.bricklink.com/SL/7739-1.jpg?0
I think this baseplate looks funny but compared to a brick-built base it is very simple and poor.
Beautifully captured scene. The movie was really not that great, unless all you like is fighting, but wow, what an amazing fighting movie it was; especially the attack on Zion. This whole thing looks fantastic. Oh, and by the way, I love your comment to Chris Roach. Ohhh, Zoltan! You pushed it off? Dude, we have ALL been there and feel your pain. Kudos for being able to get this out. Total respect for the effort of rebuilding. This is really cool. It's a wonderfully memorable scene and the death of a hero always hurts in an empathetic way. Mifune was completely relatable and a great choice to build. The A.P.U. is splendid and the guns look spot on. The sentinel looks appropriately menacing. Great job and good luck!
