Hello Everyone! I have been really busy with life recently so I haven't been too active here. I am trying out a new format of review (similar to Jalopnik's reviews), tell me how you like it! Any feedback is welcome! :)
About this creation
No doubt the exterior of the 8070 is great, but there are a few flaws. First, the battery box hanging
out of the back is horrid! Another mark against the 8070’s exterior is the stickers. It uses many more stickers than its predecessor, the 8448. I happen to really like the overall more “finished look” of this car compared to its skeletal predecessors. The side, where the fastback styling and aggressive lines are displayed is personally my favorite view of the car.
I do not really care for the interior. It looks incomplete, and lacks basic details such as, gauges, vents, and dials. The seats seem to be at a different scale or something! They are weirdly proportioned, and positioned for this size of car. Also weirdly proportioned for this car is the center console. It is way too wide, I can forgive them for this because the fact that there is a gearbox in the middle, more on that later.
This set is loaded to the gills with functions! I’ll start with the typical ones. There is independent suspension on all for corners. Steering is pretty obvious; after all, this is a Technic car we are talking about! Now the more unusual ones. The traditional gearbox that its predecessor had has been replaced with one that now switches between functions. The functions are independently opening doors, an opening hood, and a retractable spoiler. All pretty cool, but I’d rather have a proper gearbox.
The turning circle on this car is just okay, as is a problem with most big Technic sets. The steering is Hand of god type, no linkage to the steering wheel in the interior, this may be a put off for some people, but I actually prefer it, it increases the playability factor which is always a plus.
I picked mine up for 119.99, that doesn't mean you will now a days as the set is discontinued! I think this set was a relatively good deal at ~7 cents per piece. You got a good mix of new pieces and older, but still useful ones.
Overall Rating 38/50
I really like this set. It is not without its issues though. I'd fully recommend this set to anyone!
Nice review Alex! I think this is a great set too! Congratulations on 'POTW' over at Head Turnerz, you really deserve it! Your photography skills are really improving! Keep it up mate and you might even win more 'POTW's!
I have this set (picked it up used for around $80, if I remember correctly) and I would say your review is pretty much spot on. It is a pretty nice set, but I'd rather have one of the earlier supercar sets with a proper gearbox.
