About this creation
Built for the 2013 MocOlympics, against my opponent Stuart Lucas and his amazing entry.

Category:
Rube Goldberg: Always a classic... Build a working Rube Goldberg machine. A machine that performs a simple task using over the top mechanics. You do not HAVE to have a video showing it work (videos are preferred if you can) but at the very least must have pics of the machine working at every stage.

Another late entry. I was not able to build this whole week, being so busy, so this was put together in 2 days. :? Unfortunately, I was not able to get it to work in time, so my dad quickly put together an edited video to show you how it SHOULD work. The idea is over complexing of putting a ball into a hole.

Best of luck Stuart!

link to video.

I take my lego putter, and hit the ball...

which then hits the support tower, knocking it out, and letting the ball roll down the shoot.

...

...

Then the ball hits this arm which swings around...

which hits dominos...

which the last domino falls onto this wheel

Which rolls down and hits the trigger for the shooter...

which shoots up...

hits this ceiling

which falls down...

letting the club swing...

which hits the ball

which goes into the hole! ;D

A detail shot of the middle.

Soli Deo Gloria!

Matthew Oh

Wow.....im speechless.....I have no intent to be rude but you should def have won this one Matthew ur entry sweeped your opponents in my opinion I think this is the third time i've seen the mo judges really miss it on the judging side of things.

Tough luck on not advancing. This is probably the cleanest and most compact Rube Goldberg build I have ever seen, very well presented. Shame you didn't have more time.

Quoting Annie Corder This was by far the toughest match up yet, I kept going back and forth between both your builds. Unfortunately I have to vote for one of you, and if we were judging by looks alone i think you would've probably beaten Stuart. But even though your presentation is great, I think Stuart really got the feel of a Rube Goldberg machine down. Therefore he gets my vote. But just barely, you had an amazing entry and I hope you have the best of luck in the future!
Thanks Annie! I understand, he had a fantastic entry! :D I had a lot of fun this year, got my goal (get father than round 2), so I am happy. Well done Stuart, best of luck in the next round!

Quoting Ian Spacek Back and forth, back and forth...ugh! Echoing what Chris said, this was a HARD decision. Stuart's build does an excellent job of capturing the essence of a Rube Goldberg machine. It's an overdeveloped, round about way of accomplishing an extremely simple task. He also has some nice elements, such as the 2013 MO dominoes. However, in terms of overall build and presentation, I like what you've done better Matthew. The compactness of the build and how you've incorporated all the segments to fit perfectly (with not an inch to spare) is truly extraordinary! Though slightly more vague, your machine also accomplishes a task. You've got my vote, but only by the narrowest margin! Unrelated to judging, this is also currently my favorite build from you Matthew.
Phew! Thanks Ian! Glad you liked it! Now it is up to Annie...

Quoting Chris Phipson Matthew... I gotta say this is the hardest round I've had to judge in a LONG time! Everyone is turning in fantastic entries! While my vote went with Stuart, it's a really close call and could go either way! Good luck with the other judges! ~ Chris.
Thanks Chris, I am glad that I at least made it a challenge for Stuart!

The sheer fact that you made a pointless mechanism for a pointless game is brilliant! (Sorry, not a fan of golf.) I keep laughing at the initial trigger point for all of this Rube-ness to come together is a mere inch away from the goal. XD TRUE Rube Goldberg at work. Great entry and best of luck!

This is as beautiful as all your MOCs - too bad you couldn't solve all the engineering difficulties in the time, but it looks like it very nearly works! I like all the different motions you incorporated into the design, great building and good luck!
