Spider-man No More!
"I was just a young, unthinking teenager... when I first became... SPIDER-MAN... but the years have a way of slipping by... of changing the world about us... and every boy... sooner or later... must put away his TOYS... and become... a MAN!" Peter Parker, Amazing Spiderman #50
About this creation
It's amazing (pun not intended) what you can do with an eye-dropper and water.

Originally published July 1967, this is perhaps one of the most monumental issues in the entire 50 year run of the Amazing Spider-man comic series. Here's a rendition of it in LEGO®! I'd originally intended to do this in the summer for my birthday, but I sort of slacked off. Anyway, this is one in a three part installment to a Spider-man diorama trilogy I'm doing. The other two are titled It's Not Easy Being Spider-man, and Spider-man vs. The Master Planner!, the latter one of which will (hopefully, fingers crossed due to unforeseen circumstances) be on display at the Yorkdale LEGO® store February 2014 (in celebration of the anniversary the story was published, AS #33 Feb. 1966). Don't worry, they'll be much bigger. This is sort of a "taste" of what's to come. The image at the bottom is for reference. I decided to do these because I felt awful about the terrible first Spider-man build I did. However, EVERY builder has to start somewhere, and I hope this shows that I've made a lot of progress on my journey to become a better mocer. Doesn't mean I'm going to stop either ;). Spider-man has been my hero since childhood, and his comics are the only things getting me through first-year university...

Oh, and the buildings are done with forced-perspective in mind.

Reference.

Extra. Tried to add as much detail as possible for the building.

Quoting Dennis Price Yes, issue 33 would be tough, but 31-33 If This Be My Destiny IS the greatest Spidey story ever. No. 50 is next, however. That's the one I wish I had kept from days gone by! Love your take on it.
Thank you Dennis! Certainly have to agree, 31-33 is perhaps the greatest! Though #50 does come close!

Quoting Sean-Thomas Mahoney great job i've always wanted to read that one but i cant find it
Thanks! Yeah, it's not easy to find, but I'm sure it's floating around somewhere on the web, and if not, I'm sure your local comic shop has some variant of it. It's definitely a great issue and well worth the money. I'd recommend picking it up any day.

Quoting Ben King Nice! I like the forced perspective and using real water gave it an intersting flare.
Thanks! Glad you like the effect!
Quoting Mr Scones Very nicely done, I bet it took a lot of micro adjustments to get everything right. It was worth it though, great stuff.
You don't know the half of it ;). Glad it was worth it in the end for you though!

Cool. Just to be clear I was talking about the Ultimate Spiderman comic book, the cover of issue 23 to be exact. I also prefer the original Spidey, but Bendis writes the Ultimate version and it's pretty sweet. It even has a guy who loves Lego in it.

Ah. Miles Morales? Cool. I've never been a fan of Bendis, but glad there are people out there that do enjoy his work. A guy who loves LEGO in it? Now THAT'S awesome! :)

Great scene! Nice reference pic, Ultimate Spiderman is revisiting this theme in it's current arc, that pic is a cover (you probably already know this). Without your post I wouldn't have put it all together, so thanks. Also the use of real water is pretty cool.

Thanks! Glad the reference pic helped, it's what it's there for. Actually, I did not know that, thank you for telling me. I'm not a big fan of that Ultimate Spider-man show. Spider-man The Animated Series and The Spectacular Spider-man will probably forever be the only two Spider-man series I like, unless someone comes up with something even better. Not that Ultimate Spider-man is bad per se, but it plays to a different audience with different tastes. I, in the meantime, stick to the comics. The originals, that is, not the new ones.

Quoting cyberfrank 2010 hey! Jared did a spidey piece! yeah!!! your fp works, but, you d get better results by pushing the backgrounds further, you ll know you succeeded by having it out of focus on your pics! otherwise, everything is right as rain, it s funny you used real water on your scene, lol, the spidey costume trick works like wonders! bravo Jared!!!
Thank you! Sadly, I only realized that I needed to push it back further AFTER I'd done the photos (second round, I'll explain in a moment), and I was too lazy to go back and change it. Luckily, it's still around so I'll come back and fix that in a month of so. Thanks! Actually, my ORIGINAL idea for rain was to use my clear transparent bricks, but they were too bulky and ruined the picture. Then I tried my enormous collection of light-trans blue studs that I got from bick-a-pricks, but they weren't much of an improvement. It was only AFTER I'd taken the photos of the studs one did I realize I could just use REAL water to do the picture. So I did, and it turned out a hundred times better than the original (plus I can't use photo-editing software for my life).

Quoting Mark McPeek Fantastic!
Thank you! Should I assume you meant Fantastic FOUR? :P
Quoting clayton Marchetti Awesome! I love the way you made the costume look hanging out of the trash can . The building looks fantastic and gives this great perspective! Excellent
Thanks Clayton! It's funny, because that was probably the hardest part, finding a way for the costume to fit in without falling out or over. I realized the solution was to use a 2x2 blue plate (or 3-stud L-shaped plate, either works), and catch one of the studs on the rim, and then *presto*, it worked! Thanks! I should actually mention that, that everything in the background is supposed to be forced perspective. Was it so good that it was self-evident? :P
