Astromael, the Broken King - Somniferrian Ancient
A fan-made Ancient, based on Clever Crowe's World of Somniferria. It was late last night when I started working on this page, and I didn't end up finishing the backstory. I should be adding more soon.
About this creation
The Ancients destroyed Somniferria. Their battles leveled continents, crushing Somniferria beneath their feet. Finally, exhausted and stalemated, they retreated into the depths of the earth to sleep. But as with any Story, every Sleep must have its End...

By now, we are all too familiar with the story of Somniferria’s Ancients. To each nation rose an Angel, a Titan to replace their entire military force.

But they were designed too well.

They used Forces they couldn’t control, setting into motion events they did not understand.

Somniferria fell.

Almost none of the Precursors realized the consequences until it was too late. Digging through recently uncovered data crystals, we found one exception. A Somniferrian nations, referred to in archives as Astralom, saw the folly of their peers. They predicted the terrible War that would ensue, and the destruction it would cause.

By the time they learned of the Angels, it was too late to save Somniferria. But, seeing the End approaching, they did not give up. Their world would be lost, but there were many other Systems out there. They knew that this War could not end with Somniferria. Though the Titans may battle across Somniferria for a time, the day would come when they would look Beyond.

What then, if there was no Warning? What then, when the Ancients looked to the Stars?

The worlds must be prepared. A message would nee be sent. A desperate warning, to anyone who could hear. ...But such a signal that would likely not be answered until long after their own deaths.

How could such a signal be preserved through the ages? These Titans would surely destroy all in their path. What chance would anything have against the wrath of the Angels?

Anything, except One of equal power? ...Would it be possible? An unknowing Messenger, relaying out a signal across the vast expanses of space?

Knowing that an Angel would be the only reliable guardian for something so vital, Astralom began an Ancient of their own, the only thing that would withstand the War. Completely unaware of his hidden part in their plan, Astromael would enter the War, and, hopefully, Survive…

4th Wall Commentary: This is based on Clever Crowe's World of Somniferria MOCs. Nothing on here is canon to his storyline, of course, but I do have his permission to post this. If you haven't already seen Clever Crowe's work, I highly recommend taking a look. His MOCs are among my favorite on the Pages.

4thWC: I'm still working on finishing the story. Edits will probably continue for a few days.

Quoting Glorified Pessimist Honestly, when I saw the cover pic, I instantly thought of the Somniferrian Ancients! Good job! He seems incomplete, but overall pleasing. Keep up the good work!
Thanks, I'm glad you like it!

Quoting Clever Crowe I think there's alot to like here; structure-wise, this has alot of potential. Favorite bits?- I like the FEET, those compound claws are a wicked looking set! You've also built a very nicely tapered torso, with good declination and that developed-lateralus appearance. Most fave though; the biocannons - great menace, I like the articulated talons and their tuck-away gimmick; NICE work. Constructive crits: I like the leg flexibility, but are those flexrods in the back of the thighs there for stability/resistance?- they stick out at very pronounced angles, and are a bit distracting. Aside from the color-spread being a bit too wide, the MOC's got promise, to be sure. Also - that tail length is juuuuust right for this scale, good choice. Cheers, Lindel!~ =)
Thanks for the review, Clever! =) I'm glad you like the biocannons, they were my favorite part of the MOC. The flex rods sticking out were intentional, originally. I was going for an incomplete sort of feel, but I don't know if it worked the way I intended. The color scheme is a little messy, I agree. That's one of the main things I'll focus on, should I find time to revise Astrom. Thanks much for the critiques Clever, extremely helpful and detailed as always! =)

Quoting Stormjay Rider The only thing that's keeping me from liking this is that there is TOO MUCH STINKING COLOR on it, especially in the trans range. You should stick to only one or two trans colors per MOC, unless the trans colors are its primary colors. Also, the left arm has too much black on it and not enough black elsewhere, and I don't see any explanation for it.
The explanation for the arm comes in later. It was late last night when I was working on this, and I didn't have time to get all of the backstory up. I should add some more soon. As far as the color in general, I think you're probably right. It's a little excessive. Thanks for the advice, I'll try to keep that in mind if I revise Astrom, and for future MOCs. =) Thanks for looking and taking time to comment!
