The retirement of the last Raptor Class Interceptor.
About this creation
Lt. Colonel Holbrecht Aberdeen, the last living pilot of the venerable Raptor Class is pictured at the decommissioning ceremony at Leaf Ridge proving grounds just two weeks prior to his death.

During the second Dragonne Incursion this raptor class fighter saw heavy use as it defended the three systems of the Monarchy of Aremagnia.

The design was a fusion of GAIA technology sharing and off the shelf production from the Monarchy's military industrial complex. While now outclassed by more modern fighter craft, it still saw use as a system defense and trainer craft well into the current era.

Primary weapon was the huge and powerful rotary plasma cutter. Capable of burning through ablative armor and melting the alloys beneath, it thus opened the hull of many a pirate and Dragonne vessel to vacuum from as far as 16 Kilometers.

Equipped with a short range hyper-drive and massive power plant, the fighter was still relatively maneuverable unless is was caught in atmosphere.

The craft pictured will be housed in honor at the Monarch's Own Museum once it finishes decommissioning. Tickets are available at the Aremagnia Museum at a nominal fee.

Quoting Alex Sonny This is really awesome, the wings and bulky hull look amazing. The gantling gun on the front is a nice idea too! But it could use a better engine at the back, the small thruster just doesn't do justice to such an excellent craft!
Thanks for looking, Alex!

Quoting cyberfrank 2010 wow! I love your sculpting on this fighter Ron! very original part use, it s rare that people use the 'blades' in the wings as you did, bravo!
I had seen that idea somewhere and thought it a great effect. Never had a chance to use it until this puppy was in design phase...liked it immediately. Thanks for commenting!

Quoting Jzaltheral Brickbuilder No problem and thank you for the answer - that's one of the newer parts that came our during my latest enforced break from the brick. Definitely going to have to pick up a dozen or two of those.
They do come in handy on occasion...

Quoting Mike Johnson For an "over the hill" ship, she looks better to me than many of the flying junk-piles polluting the skies these days! Very nicely done indeed and keep that nose gun handy. Those sneaky lizards are always up to something.
I have another craft in the work up stage that uses this weapon system, thanks for commenting!

Quoting Jzaltheral Brickbuilder Quick question - what are those pieces you used for the engine intakes over and under the wings. Haven't seen those before.
Sorry Mr. B-builder, somehow I missed your comment! Here is a link: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemPic.asp?P=61069 Thanks for lookin'

Quoting El Barto ! Nice job on that main pic, Chief! Especially the warp action around the engine. How'd you do that?
Thanks Captain! In GIMP-> Filters>Light and Shadow>supernova, locate "supernova" where you want it. Next step-Filters>Distorts>Warp, and carefully use the mouse to create the correct angle and appearance you want. Relatively simple!

Quoting Topsy Creatori (StoveTopCreator!) Nice one, even though, as Matt says.. no cute gal pilot! Is there room in that cockpit for two? Perhaps his navigator is female? :)
Let me put it this way -- there is a reason it is obsolete...thanks Topsy!

Quoting matt rowntRee Cool! Love the mid-wing pieces, makes it look stable and wicked fast. This pilot isn't as cute as the other, although, he kinda resembles a certain Wookiee I know. =] Zippy and swooshable flyer!
This was more an homage to Parrington's earlier builds and as such I was thinking a back story of a retired ship ready for a museum...and a pilot to match. Glad you like it and hope it helps spur some life back into a cool theme! Down with the Dragonne!!!

Quoting El Barto ! Deadly! Nice lines on this, Chief!
I really tried to put a GAIA twist on this. I tried to recreate some of Parrington's style points and I think I was moderately successful. It is certainly out of my comfort zone but it was fun. Thanks for the comment, and when I get time I will GIMP this up as it deserves.
