I spend much more time on the backdrops this year. Is it worth it?
About this creation
I kinda have mixed feelings. This minifg looked really cool when I first made it, but on this picture it looks so plain and boring with this backdrop. Should I continue doing the very detailed backdrops like that? Or does it get most of the attention than the fig itself?

Either way, I hope you like it!

I think he looks great here! The backdrop really adds to the overall appearance. Nice parts usage; I'm especially digging the dragon perch.

great scene! very detailed, the fig is fine, except maybe the face, it looks like a worker, but, the way you dressed him is very cool!

I actually think that this turned out really well. I love the bookshelves and the desk, but they would look pretty plain without the fig. As far as the fig is concerned, it is well thought out, and I think the backdrop really makes him look more wizardly than he would without it. The only thing I'm a bit confused by is the wooden circle he's standing on. Is that the suggestion of a floor, is it some magical platform. If it's just floor, I would recommend building the entire floor for him to be standing on. I think it would add to the feel of the MOC. All in all, though, this is really good.

You should have given him some magic swirls and stuff.

Very nice! love the back-drop, the bookshelf is great. The magician will be much nicer with a cape... my 2 cents... :)

I really like this style, I think's it's both visually enhancing of the figure, and more interesting.

I like the backdrops. They add a bit of flare to the minifigs.

The figure still looks good - he just looks like he's dressed for the outdoors, like a wizard who can protect himself on the open road. He doesn't look soft and plump like an indoor wizard to me.

The bookshelf and table with all the little details really add to the character. I think you're doing a good job spending more time on the background setting.

I think it depends on the minifigure, if it's like this (a magician), it seems fitting to add the backdrop. Very nice!

I think the detailed backgrounds gives the mini-figure character, that without the detail just wouldn't be there.

Okay, maybe I'll have to comment. :P Maybe next year, (start building now I suppose) build rooms or bigger scenes for them all?

It's the back drops that I find the most interesting part. In this one, I like the cluttered bookshelf and the perch for the parrot (dragon?!) is simply done but very neat too.

I like the backdrops... very complimentary. It's the epaulettes that do not work for me... perhaps a cape instead? :)

I really like this one even though its a bit plain. in my opinion you should stick with the detailed back drops as they add the atmosphere needed for the figure. hope that helps :)
