As night approached, Tybalt, Jake, Ender, and Drake rushed through the forest that bordered the road towards the near villages by Terbuth. The fact that the poison province had made a reappearance and that Terbuth had been attacked was still shocking Tybalt. Every now and then when he would hear a noise, he would be startled, load his bow, and feel his heartbeat rate rise rapidly.
"Let's rest here!" Jake panted. He leaned down on his staff, struggling to catch his breath. Drake hopped onto the wall with his sword held out in front of him. Ender stood by Tybalt, also looking out. Tybalt, also keeping watch, heard the crunch of breaking twigs. He looked up, towards the road, and he saw a men dressed in black robes, metal pauldrons, a thick dark green cape, with a bearded, saturnine face and straight long hair.
Upon realizing the enemy's presence, Ender rushed towards him. Tybalt knew, from past experiences, he was always eager for a fight, and never backed down from an opportunity he was given. Ender raised his sword ready to strike. Drake also turned, seeing the man.
Drake charged, but another man suddenly burst through the bushes and swiftly swung his longsword down onto Drake. The teenager realized that the man was there, yelled loudly, and held up one of his swords to block the incoming strike. The impact staggered Drake's grip and stance, and his knees buckled. As this attack happened, the first man released a green burst of energy through his hand, to which Ender gasped and then dropped below the space where he would've been hit.
Tybalt then realized he had an opportunity to make a kill. He held up his already loaded bow, and let the arrow fly. It hit the man dead center in the chest, and he shrieked, gave up his last few breaths and fell, dead.
Drake then proceeded to fire a burst of flames to the other man, who magically formed a shield out of thin air. The fire hit the shield and it dissipated. Behind Drake stood Tybalt, his bow out in front of him freshly loaded with a new arrow.
As, Ender stood up, the man then released a burst of air out of his hand. It picked up Drake and he was blown backwards near Tybalt. The burst of air also blew aside Ender, who yelled as he fell back.
The man approached Drake, and held up his sword. Just as he was about to bring Drake to his doom, Ender stood up again, and rushed towards Drake. He blocked the assault with his katana, surprising the man, who looked at Ender with a creepy stare.
"No one touches my friend!" Ender said with a look of rage on his face. He then swung his sword out from under the man's sword, brought it behind his neck, and ran it through. The head popped right off.
It landed on the path a few feet away. The body fell and the neck, now a bloody stump, let loose a gush of blood. Drake got up, and panted as he examined the carnage.
Another man burst through shouting a war cry. He pushed aside Tybalt who landed the back of his head on the stone wall. Jake, who had been watching the skirmish all along, finally took action.
He silently muttered an incantation, and he raised his staff. A swirling vortex formed around the crystal on the tip of his staff, and a jet of air shot forward. It blasted the man back who screamed and flew fifteen feet away. Jake chuckled.
Jake: "Tybalt, are you okay? You hit your head pretty hard there."
Tybalt: "Really, it was nothing. There's only a small bump on my head. Let's hurry, I'll take care of it later."
Drake: "Yeah, let's go, before anybody else comes."
They company set off. Tybalt was more nervous than ever, for they had been attacked a second time. To Tybalt, he felt as if none of the world was safe anymore.
By nightfall they arrived at the walls of the village Sundeck. Village was a rather inaccurate term, for the stone walls were built into a massive mountain, whose side had been carved out for its precious metals. It's high metal production made it one of the largest commerce centers in the fire province.
Ender: "Why is it called Sundeck village? That's a rather odd name."
Jake: "You'll see in the morning. But before that happens let's find an inn."
The other three disappeared past the walls. Tybalt stayed behind to look at the horizon. Beyond the sea, he saw the full moon rising, in between the range of two mountains. To the left of the mountains however, he saw heavy pillars of smoke rising, invisible against the black night. In the morning, the tower watchmen should see it, he thought.
Tybalt then remembered the conversation he had with Jake before Terbuth's attack. "I think I've found my adventure." He said to himself. He then retreated into the castle.
