Eviliki: 2013 Bio-cup Finals
My entry to the final round of the Bio-cup... The epic finale! :D
About this creation

Heroes fall...

And can be corrupted...

This is this is the story of Moaliki.

Now he is Eviliki, embodiment of evil and dark energy...

Back.

His Abs (that are made of ABS). :P. This is one of my favorite parts (note the black Bohrok teeth and armpit armor)

Note the skirt. Real men (and Eviliki) wear skirts. :P. I thought the skirt was an important aspect of the original, so Eviliki got one!

Gauntlet/ vambrace shot.

Standing (and looking awesome).

Face shot! I think I was able to incorporate Moaliki' features very well here.

Back shot. Love this part.

This is how I made the legs posable but still have clutch-power (not wiggly). Pretty clever, eh? Just a good-looking piston.

Walking epically.

Phosphorous-esk shot.

Get ready to be smashed!

Main shot.

Push-up.

Super PUNCH! Very Pacific Rim-y.

Conjuring dark energy.

Now with the Dark Saber!

You want some?

Holding it.

Energy spear! A more advanced way of fishing.

He sees you.

Looking awesome.

Blasting... something with... dark energy or something.

Now for... Knives!

Shink!

I got this...

Now for his signature weapon, the Dark Energy Mace!

Oh, yeah!

Ready for battle.

Come and get me! Make my day...

Epic ending shot.

Creator's Comments:

First of all I'd like to wish good luck to my opponent, Toa Phosphorous! Great work getting this far, buddy! :D. I hope you don't mind that I turned your character evil, but it was the first thing I thought of. ;)

I'd also like to thank the judges for making this an awesome contest, and keeping things going (and just generally being OK with going with the flow) even with all the dropouts! Thanks guys!

Now about the build: I've got to say, I love how he turned out! I think he's my best MOC yet, so if I lose I'll still know I put forth my best effort. He was fun to pose (mostly because he's stable and won't fall apart (and also because I was playing the Pacific Rim song in my head the whole time)). ;). I think I did a good job on layering his armor, but still making him posable. I think I did a good job incorporating the character, even though he's an evil version (why I went with black and red).

Hope you enjoyed! Wish me luck, I really enjoyed this contest! Can't wait for next year! :D

Quoting Yuri Fassio Well done to both of you. You have put me in a tight spot. I'm having trouble choosing between the finely chiseled Tallix and the bulkier Eviliki. Both MOCs are of superb technical level, and neither of you spared any effort in building and presentation. Even if I were to nitpick, I could say that I don't agree much with the hero cores on Eviliki, but I also think Tallix looked better with the visor (more "masculine").I could go with Tallix, based on the greater play-ability displayed on the pictures, but I really like how the Moaliki-Megaliki-Eviliki trio flows, it was a faultless and imaginative interpretation of the theme. I think that Phosphorous' Tallix is a grater improvement on Infernum's Tallix than Eviliki is and improvement on Megaliki. So to me, Phosphorous wins at the "I can do better!" theme we selected for the finals. My vote goes to him.
Thanks Yuri. :)

Quoting Monarth the Contrarian Congratulations on making it to the finals. You have both done well with your opponent making it this far. Now about Eviliki: The character is well built and a nicely complex yet smooth whole. While the colors have completely changed, it's good that he seems to take some similarities from both Moaliki and Megaliki. Most notably the head and skirt. It's a little weird though that the scuba mask/breathing device is now red. While I would've liked to see a bit more of the original fisher theme stay in one way or another, this creation is a very nice edition. Some nitpicks would be the the shins-with-more-depth-than-feet, lack of leg posing and slightly thin arms. All in all, this entry is very good, a little more recognizable-to-original (basis being on head, colors and proportions) and a wilder take than your opponent's and as such my vote goes to you.
Thanks Monarth! =D

Quoting Chris Yee Evil indeed! Excellent colour palette that lends itself well to the creation. Whilst black is and always will be a challenge to photograph, often obscuring many intricate details, upon closer examination, one can definitely see impeccable design. The red accents serve to highlight areas very well, perhaps a little too well (Re: Codpiece). This is still an incredibly close one, as Crowe mentioned, it is a hair's breadth of difference. My vote goes to you.
Thanks a ton Chris!

Quoting Gilbert Despathens In case you didn't notice, I've been rooting for you the whole time, too, and all these tied ballots kill me - I bet the judges plan to alternate positive and negative votes in the final rounds to keep the suspense high. I still like the head... and, if you pardon the change in subject, Cevka had a good question: What do you use for a background
Thanks Gilbert! Ha, ha, I bet they do. ;). I just use two white poster boards, brighten them in a photo editor, and then auto color them in the same editor. I also resize them to 600x450 (?) pixels so they upload quicker. ;D

Thanks! Ha, ha, you should ask Phosphorous. Look here: http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/363720 I use two white posterboards for my background. :)

Quoting Johann Dakitsch First of all, congratulations on getting so far, you sure earned it! Now, lets get to the MOC itself.I quite like it that you went for a different version of the original character. Its well build and consistent(the arms are a little skinny, though). Some nice technical work goin on, specially on the head and shaping of the legs. The original version, however, had an overall more interesting design, as this is a little bit on the bland side. Its well executed, sure, but also a little commom-place (all black with red for an evil look). But anyways, all that said, I will vote for your opponent, as his entry has a bit more of a appeal. Still, this is a fine work, and you should be proud of it. Congratulations again, and good luck with the rest of the judges!
Thanks! I thought a lot about the color choice. I thought black and red would be able to show the evil-ness of the character well while still looking cool . It's all tied up... :)

Quoting Clever Crowe Alright, well: the next bit will lead BOTH of my Judgements, because it's relevant to both, and the context directly affected both; in terms of quality, thematics, and style. So - to ensure that I felt like I'd passed fully Informed judgement upon each, I revisited each of the MOCs the Final-Round Builds were based on. I reviewed comments, studied the originals structures and merits, and then compared each to the Re-Imagines. As an aside before passing Judgement, I want to say that having to decide between the two competitors is an unenviable task - I found alot to like about them both; one must still stand; and one fall, however. And so: visiting a few points I liked; thematically I liked the dark twist on Moa, the multiple layers of armor segmentation, and the frequent presence of Custom elements (the head, the accessories, limb and digit-articulation). Frame-wise, this was a powerful-looking figure, proportions-wise; I did NOT like that there didn't seem to be a great deal of leg flexibility (or that was shown), but the arms made up for any limitations there. There wasn't much lacking in Tallix upon which to equivocate against Eviliki, but in the end, it often must come down to splitting the proverbial hairs. I simply feel that this Re-Imagine was the better Build of the two, and thus, it has my official Vote. I still congratulate you both on your work in the Cup, and progressing all the way to the Finals. Cheers~
Thanks a ton Crowe! Thanks for the vote! =D. The legs aren't terribly flexible, but they are sturdy, and MORE that support his weight. The design itself is very flexible, but the skirt limits it a bit. Thanks!

Quoting Toa Phosphorus Wow! The amount of work here is astonishing. I've got to say its a mammoth build and much better on proportions than your tallix titan. While I think it was a cool concept of flipping the hero on his head, Moaliki was never really a hero. More of an everyman thrust into a heroic scenario. Therefor to flip Moaliki I think he should be more a shade of grey instead of pitch black. With the head being the hardest part to pull off I think you did an amazing job. Good luck!
Thanks! Ugh, I hated the proportions of my titan Tallix. This one is so much better. Interesting idea about the grey. Thanks!

Quoting Gilbert Despathens I think the head looks great. I could never tell exactly where the original Moaliki's eyes were, to tell the truth. Of course, I'm not even sure if yours HAS eyes, but I can pretend that the grill of the mask between the red parts is an evil monocular.
