This piece was requisitioned by the Historic Hudson Valley to be included in an exhibit entitled “The Art Of The Pumpkin”. This exhibit, new for 2013, runs in conjunction and on the same grounds as their annual Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze at Van Cortlandt Manor, in Croton-on-the-Hudson, New York. Partnering with the non-profit group Collaborative Concepts, 25 artists of varying mediums were assembled to develop proposals for inclusion in the exhibit.
The concept of my submission, entitled “Horseman”, came to me over a weekend of brainstorming. With this scene, I hoped to capture the natural movement of both the pumpkin patch and the horse emerging from the pumpkin. I am very pleased with the results. The fully glued piece took about 45 hours to develop and build and uses about 9500 LEGO bricks. Its dimensions are 4’L x 2’ W x 3’H.
It can be viewed, along with works by many artists, at the 2013 Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze, which is open to the public, this autumn.
