Hero Factory Brain Attack Review #12: Frost Beast
As if Pyrox wasn't enough tooth and claw for the heroes to deal with, in comes #44011 Frost Beast! He is one of the large packaged villains of the series with 60 pieces.
About this creation
The parts consist of:

A regular torso piece.
Four grey upper limb pieces in the regular size.
Five black lower limb pieces; two in regular size, two in the second-shortest size and one in the shortest size.
Two white feet.
One white hand.
One dark blue skull piece.

Frost Beast will be armoured in:
One 2.0 torso armour piece in white.
One white paw piece.
Frost Beast's face piece.
Two size 4 armour pieces in trans-light blue.
Eight size 3 amour pieces; six in white, two in trans-light blue.

The bag also shelters:
A light blue Brain Parasite... Mine got bent :'(
A short light blue sword piece.
Three white fur/ice pieces.
Four trans blue savage planet claw pieces.
And an assortment of important technic pieces, which I would not know how to catagorise...

Now that's done with, let's see the whole thing as one.

There he is; the cousin of Pyrox in the flesh! Sorry for the (lack of) lighting from this point on, it was practically night time at that point :P

Ok, there are a few reasons that I compare this guy to Pyrox a bit too much; A) the obvious one; his clawed paw. Always loved the look of those paws with those fingers, and to get those pieces in a translucent colour (like we did in Pyrox) Is always a bonus! That's not the only reason I compare this to Pyrox though; the stance, the shape of face and the fact that it looks so darn awesome no matter how you pose him are all factors which also belong to Pyrox. Don't get me wrong; I'm not complaining. I like the references, and it's a subtle repetition of all the good things about Pyrox.

The face is something I referenced to before. I really like the face that this guy has, the fact that it's so large makes it the centre of attention of the set, in a way that the Heroes don't have, for example. It also contributes to a non-humanoid feel, to have it that big and that low down. There is a significant lack of texture in the face, though, which can work in a way, but it doesn't make him seem as ugly and horrible as the other villains though. The mouth also contributes to the un-evilness (totally a word)of him. This is only because of the lack of jaggedness that the lower jaw has (I know that there are teeth insized in there, but the lack of void in there really makes a difference.)

Obviously the designers have responded to the success of the Furno XL chest design, by using the shoulder "balls" on the torso piece to attach armour instead of the arms, and attaching the arms through technic pieces further back, it really goes for a wide, puffed out chest which works slightly better on non-humanoid characters. I like the use of red spikes on the chest and thighs. It really brings the Brain Parasite into the astethic of the set, in a way that the other's dont. The only unfortunate thing is that the red spikes rely on the Brain Parasite being there... but then, so does the face.

I like what they were trying to do with the shoulder pads, kinda makes me think of Shredder from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Not the latest series, the one that was on like 5-8 years ago... the one I grew up loving :P)It works with the tail of the Brain Parasite when it's up, working for a really rugged feel. But in some positions, it looks awqward, like it's not really attached to him. I like the idea, but I'm not 100% sure about execution.

The sword I have mixed feelings on. It looks really nice and savage, suiting the character himself. The grey axel connector kind of kills it though... Makes it unecessarily long and takes away the natural feel of it... Looks better without it. Otherwise it's awesome. Unfortunately, the hilt, as nice as it looks, is very loose and falls off a lot. This is only an annoyance if you want to play with the toy though.

My only other complaint is that a very non-humanoid creature appears to have humanoid feet... I think white Humungasaur (Forgive me if I misspelled it, I never took interest in Ben 10, and I couldn't be bothered to look THAT up) feet would have been more apropriate.

A posative review for once! I'm going to rate this set in three different catogories; Toy value (how good it is to play with and pose ect.), Design Value (The design, including the colour scheme and how it was built) and Moccist Value (The amount of good pieces).
Here are Pyrox Frost Beast's results;

Toy Value: 3/5 (As much play value as you would expect from this kind of set.)

Design Value: 4/5 (Apart from a few nit-picks, this set is near perfect)

Moccist Value: 4/5 (We do get a lot of cool new parts with this guy.)

Overall Value: 11/15

Well, that's all folks!

Not to revive this review or anything, but I had to make a choice between Frost Beast and Pyrox today. It was though, but I ended up just grabbing FB and walking out.... I come back and find you give him a better grade for MOCing quality. Score.

Quoting Ben Cossy I was a little dissapointed with this set, the package makes him look really cool, but as a toy he was a bit of a let down, limbs are meh, and the head is so derpy :P Pieces are great though!
Well, I kinda liked this one myself. I did forget to cover the shortness of the arms, which I had noticed, and I totally agree with you there. The legs are kinda meh, but sort of normal meh, if you know what I mean. I quite like the face, but I can definately see why someone wouldn't like it. Pieces are definately great! :D Thanks for the comment, my friend! :)

Quoting Reaper the Ultimate . Hey wow, a decent HF set, with a positive review, and me not launching into a nostalgic tangent about the good old days! What is this? Jokes aside, nice review as always Wert. Still not going to buy the set, but if I want to buy any of the recent ones, this would be it.
OH NO!!! *world implodes* We have to complain about something!! Maybe he has no cogs? :P But yeah, in my opinion the best of wave 2, and definately in the top 5 of the series! ;)

Quoting Legobob 29 I think you'll like Evo. He's nice. I've upgraded him using Breakout Evo,but, surprisingly, I still have a version of Breakout Evo assembled, but I think I'm gonna take him apart and make BA Evo even BETTER. When I (hopefully) get BA Rocka, I'm gonna upgrade him with Breakout Rocka. But yeah, looking forward to the review, I hope to see it as soon as you've got Evo >:)
From looking at pictures, I can already notice some good stuff, and some minor flaws, too. I hope my review can come up soon, but I don't trust myself in these things :P

Quoting Stormjay Rider Yay, 'nother review. Right now I'm considering some of the Chima ultrabuilds that have rarer colors (dark red, dark green, and purple). But I'll have to consider this as well. If only that blade was in metallic...
yeah... I do like the look of the Chima sets, but due to me and non-existance of money, I won't be getting or reviewing them... Although a silver one would be cool, it wouldn't suit Frost Beast too much. Chi Cragger has some though, I believe.
