S.S. France WIP (1)
The new update on the S.S. France.
About this creation
Hello, I was a little busy these last days, and haven't posted many new creations, so here is my latest:

The S. S. France

This first update of this construction includes:

  • The first 1.2m of it made

  • A ready-to-make interior, will post images of that later

  • Engine room

  • Working controls from the bridge(all mechanical, no wires)

  • 1st Funnel

This creation will be updated from time to time; the S.S. France won't be 100% done for a while.

Another view of the port side.

This is the 2nd design for the 1st funnel, the S.S. France has two in all. The real one's shape was intended to direct the smoke away from the top deck, as to keep the boat (and passengers) clean.

The interior design for the funnel is fairly simple, using a technic bent L-shaped connector. It's stronger than it looks.

The started lettering for the word "FRANCE" on each side of the ship. The real letters still do exist, and are kept in Le Musee de la Marine in Paris, France.

This boat is one of my first with an engine room. Every piston is mobile, turned by a slow pull-back motor, which lasts 20-30 seconds after it is pulled.

Another shot showing the piston arms.

From a minifig's perspective.

The narrow platform leading to a door.

This is the *hem*ugly*hem* bridge so far: it is far from done.

The primary interest is the control controlling the speed of the ship. This does lead to the engine room.

So far, it only controls a makeshift sign. In a futher update, it will actually control the engines, I was just too lazy to connect it now. :)

The ship itself right now is 208 studs long and 34 studs wide. For comparison, the S.S. Normandie V2 and the Titanic are only 24 studs wide.

For easier transportation, the whole ship is modular, each on its own 34x32 base.

The bow. Notice the uneven line: the bow rises slightly.

A view of the bridge.

Don't get lost in the maze of hallways inside!

Quoting Isaiah Marc Great model, but I think I saw some Mega Blocks in there.
That's very possible- I don't really mind them in there, I just try to avoid them as much as possible.

Hmm. At 5 US cents, assuming you are buying all 3,000, it'll cost a good $150. I personally own only about half that amount, so.

Quoting Achintya Prasad Nice! Do you plan on tiling up the hallways?
Maybe. It is true that blue and green baseplate colors aren't very nautical, but it also means, if we assume that there is one 4-wide hallway per deck, that there will be 12,000 square studs of area to tile (or 3,000 2x2 square tiles). So just maybe. (Math consists of 6 decks x 500 studs long x 4 studs wide. It's a big boat.)

Quoting LEGO Master Love the details. Love the updates. Will this be minifig scale?
It will be a scaled-down minifig scale; that is, I've made it smaller than it should be for minifig scale, but managed to add minifigs by making it 3 decks smaller, and shorter than it should be. That way, the important details (funnels, lettering on the side) and the general look still look like the S.S. France, but in a scaled-down minifig scale.
