MOCOlympics Round 1: Madam Justice
It's about to get geeky up in here...
About this creation

MOCOlympics homepage

So the category I chose was Libra, the scales.
I'm basing my entry off of a fantastic scene from the graphic novel, V for Vendetta. This scene was sadly not in the movie.
If you don't know what V for Vendetta is, here's a link to the Wikipedia article on it.

In this scene, our hero V has a conversation with the statue of Madam Justice on top of the Old Bailey building in London.
The connection to the category here, is not only that Madam Justice is holding a pair of scales, but also that the sign of Libra often represents idealistic justice, which is the debated topic in this scene.

So yeah, enjoy.

(Pleas note that the statue doesn't talk, V is voicing her.)

"Hello dear Lady, a lovely evening is it not?
Forgive me for intruding, perhaps you were intending to take a stroll. Perhaps you were merely enjoying the view.
No matter, I thought it was time we had a little chat, you and I."

"Ahh... I was forgetting that we are not properly introduced.
I do not have a name, you can call me V.

Madam Justice... This is V.
V... This is Madam Justice.

Hello, Madam Justice.

Good evening, V."

"There, now we know each other. Actually I've been a fan of yours for quite some time.
Oh I know what you're thinking..."

"The poor boy has a crush on me! An adolescent infatuation!"

"I beg your pardon madam. It isn't like that at all."

"I've long admired you... Albeit from a distance.
I used to stare at you from the streets below as a child.
I'd say to my father "Who is that lady?" and he'd say, "That's Madam Justice." And I'd say, "Isn't she pretty."

"Please don't think it was merely physical. I know you're not that sort of girl.
No, I loved you as a person. As an ideal.

That was a long time ago, I'm afraid there's someone else now..."

"What? V! For shame! You have betrayed me for some harlot, some vain and pouting hussy with painted lips and a knowing smile!"

"I, Madam? I beg to differ! It was YOUR infidelity that drove me to her arms!
Ah-ha! THAT surprised you didn't it? You thought I didn't know about your little fling. But I do. I know everything!
Frankly, I wasn't surprised when I found out about it. You always did have an eye for a man in a uniform."

"Uniform? Why I'm sure I don't know what you're talking about. It was always you, V. You were the only one..."

"Liar! Slut! Whore! Deny that you let him have his way with you, him with his arm bands and jackboots!"

"Well? Cat got your tongue?
I thought as much...

Very well. So you stand revealed at last.
You are no longer my Justice, you are his Justice now.
You have bedded another.
Well two can play at that game!"

"Sob! Choke! Wh-Who is she V? What is her name?"

"Her name is Anarchy. And she has taught me more as a mistress that you ever did!
She has taught me that justice is meaningless without freedom.
She is honest. She makes no promises and breaks none. Unlike YOU Jezebel.

I used to wonder why you could never look me in the eye. Now I know."

"So goodbye, dear lady. I would be saddened by our parting even now, save that you are no longer the woman that I once loved. Here, a final gift, I leave at your feet."

"The flames of freedom. How lovely. How just. Ahh, my precious Anarchy...
Oh beauty, til now I never knew thee."

So there we go, hopefully that's not too far of a stretch of the category.
I'd like to note that I do not necessarily share any of the political views shown in this post, I just like the graphic novel.

Here's a page from the novel, so that you can see what I was going off of.

Thanks for looking!

You probably know already from the MocOlympics 'Round One Scores' thread, but it can't hurt to comment on your creation to tell you that you made it to Round 2. Congratulations. Your V version is top-notch, Alan Moore is already awesome and I - though I'm not from the US - always love to see explosions ;o)

Very interesting. Unfortunately I've yet to read this (though I will be this week) so thanks for the photo at the end. The V dude is pretty cool, though I think the black colour scheme is hiding some chunkiness. But hey, if it doesn't detract from the visual that's fine. Nice statue design too, though overall this seems kind of drab. I mean, it's a big scene with about 4 colours and 3 actual features. Still, what there is is done well, though the explosion could have been a tad more refined.

Great work Ru, really nice. I am quite biased because I love V in particular and Alan Moore's work in general (you are right about Killing Joke too - my absolute favourite Batman story)but not to take anything away from a brilliant,character-filled build of V, the excellent dome (is it the Old Bailey? Must re-read it!) and statue. Good luck and as Pop Will Eat Itself sing "Alan Moore, knows the score!"

This is awesome, man! The dome shaped pedestal and the railing add a lot to the fantastic brick figures. The explosion is super cool too! ;) Have fun, and we shall see you in the Second Round!

Quoting Seth Bryan Oh yes. Ohhh yes. This is like one of the greatest monologues in comic book history. Perfectly executed.
I completely agree! Rivaled only by the end of The Killing Joke. Alan Moore is the man. Thanks dude!

Quoting matt rowntRee V for Vendetta was one of my favorite comics when I was young, I still have a few, somewhere. The movie was spectacular but it wasn't as good as the comic (Yeah, it's that good!) Great take on the idea of the zodiac. The scales of justice count and this certainly has my vote for just being an ultra cool moc. I think I hear some music. ;) Should we say that it is not the contestants that should fear the judges, but rather the judges that should fear the contestants. Yeah! BOOOM!
Thanks man! I'm glad someone who loves the comics appreciates this. I agree that the comics were better than the movie in almost every way. Except Evey. I really like Natalie Portman's Evey better than the book Evey. But anyways, thank you and I'm really glad you like it :-D
