M.O. Round 1: 'Scorpio' class defensive emplacement
Inspired by the scorpion's ability to lie in wait and strike without warning, SEAL unveils their multipurpose defensive emplacement.
About this creation
This is an entry in the 2013 MocOlympics with the theme 'Signs of the Zodiac.' I think it's fairly obvious which one I went for...

And, following the LukeClarenceVan school of efficient MOC building, this is also my final entry for the MOC contest/strategy game Decisive Action in the category 'Territorial Defensive Power' (Land & Air)!

The 'Scorpio' is an anti-tank/anti-aircraft emplacement, whose low profile helps to increase survivability.

The 'legs' of the scorpion are actually seismic sensors, giving the operators advance warning of the location of approaching foes long before they spot the Scorpio. High-power radar mounted on the tail scans for aerial attacks.

Steve the seismologist passes on information to Leyland the gunner.

Leyland can direct the AA guns on the tail to track passing aircraft...

...and aim the heavy armour piercing cannons on each 'claw'.

Front and side shots to finish...

Fourth wall: this is by far my most rushed contest entry ever. If by some tremendous good fortune it gets me into round 2, hopefully I'll be able to produce something worthy of the opposition! In any case good luck everyone and thanks to the judges as ever for giving their time and energy for the rest of us.

Quoting Lego Builders Very good. It would be funny if the name for it was SCORPIO, an acronym. -LB Jr.
Now why didn't I think of that? I always love a good (or bad) acronym. Any suggestions?

Quoting LukeClarenceVan The Revanchist Only for two contests? Pfft, I've done twice that. ;) Cool concept, I like the claw guns. I think the colour scheme's a bit loose though, and the landscape's kinda chunky. Finally, putting a dark vehicle on a dark base makes it look almost drab. Still, a cool design and I like the use of bionicle pieces.
Luke, I appreciate your taking the time to provide constructive comments on everyone's creations. I agree with all your criticisms - if I hadn't been pushing the deadline I would definitely have redesigned the base (maybe made it a snow scene?), and probably the legs.

You probably know already from the MocOlympics 'Round One Scores' thread, but it can't hurt to comment on your creation to tell you that you made it to Round 2. Congratulations. Very good work for a rushed MOC.

Good job Stu! Looks like it should be manned by the Galaxy Patrol minifigs and is reminding me of Jayce and the Wheeled warriors for some reason (minus the wheels of course!). The fact it's serving dual purpose on two contests is icing on the cake isn't it? Good luck mate.

So you finally finished your ORBAT...amazing that you've built such a huge lead without doing so. Anyway, striking model...makes me want to step on it and smush it. You are specifications accurate and ready to defend your lead. Good luck in the final desperate turns!

Dual duty done right! Do you realize you have dual duties being performed in the cockpit too?! Double dandy all the way around! :)

Excellent! Building scorpions is hard - there's a tendency to put in too much detail. Yours has a nice clean yet functional appearance. The pedipalps are really cool. Well done and good luck.

Efficient multi-tasking going on here. Good luck in both contests, not that you need it in at least one of them...

I like how the legs are seismic sensors, just like a spider's. The shape looks great, especially the curved tail with its weapons.

Good job. And good luck in the MO. I hope to see you in R2.
