MO R1 - A Fool's End
You know... Leo, Scorpio, Gemini and so on. Choose any ONE of the 12 Zodiac signs and build a moc incoorporating that ONE sign into it.
About this creation
2013 MocOlympics

The category I have chosen is Scorpio.

Legend has it that at the Shrine of Scorpio there is a golden chest containing unimaginable riches, guarded by a monster scorpion. Many adventurers have tried to slay the beast and retrieve the treasure, but all have failed. I've been convinced all my life that I would be the one to conquer the Shrine and its guardian. I've trained relentlessly and prepared to the best of my ability for this duel, but alas, the creature is far greater a monster than I could have ever imagined. Oh, I am a fool! Surely, this is my end.

I tend to have the best ideas at the most inconvenient times. Usually it's while I'm trying to sleep or do school work, but the day before the MocOlympics has to be the worst timing. I decided just to work on my Lego project idea, but then my leads went cold. So three days ago I started on my MO entry, and I'll just go back to the other idea later on, when the juices start flowing again. Not going to tell what the idea is though, not just yet :)

So anyway, this was a really fun build. The scorpion is the kind of MOC that I'm really not used to, and the landscape was super fun. I tried a few new (new to me) rockwork techniques which I'll hopefully venture further into.

Thanks for checking this out, and huge thanks to the judges for running the contest!

Lovely scenery and i really like the scorpion design - chunky looks better for me at the 'giant' scorpion scale. Great work and good luck to you!

Quoting LukeClarenceVan The Revanchist Nice work. I like the composition, and the rockwork's quite nice. I think the scorpion's the real weakness here though, it lacks much of the poise and slender menace that a real scorpion has. Also, the landscape isn't fully clicking in with me due to the colour scheme - it's very heavy and it feels like it's smothering my eyes like a rich meal smothers the stomach. That said, this is very well built overall.
Hmm, I see what you mean. I agree that the scorpion is too thick and chunky, though personally I like the rich landscape colours. But I definitely see where you're coming from with that - a build with fewer colours that mix well really hits the spot. Thanks for that Luke!
