M.O. Round 1 - A Desolate Future
"The 12 Signs of the Zodiac." You know... Leo, Scorpio, Gemini and so on. Choose any ONE of the 12 Zodiac signs and build a moc incoorporating that ONE sign into it. Finally, reading books has paid off! For this category of the 2013 MocOlympics, I decided to take the zodiac of Cancer, the crab. When thinking of a way to incorporate a crab into my model, I remembered back to the famous novel by H.G. Wells, The Time Machine. In the later stages of the book, the Time Traveler goes to the very far future, only to see nothing but beaches, rocky cliffs, and massive red crabs. He quickly chooses to get back to the present as quickly as possible. This MOC also sees through a change in photography, very much for the better!
About this creation
The 2013 MocOlympics!

Here you can see the Time Machine, composed mainly of Ivory and Gold. The poor Time Traveler attempts to escape the monstrous crabs on the breaking shore.

The Crabs - the link to the zodiac theme (if you hadn't noticed). As the hardest part of the build, I wanted them to be much bigger than normal but not, you know...ridiculously large. Regardless of all the odd connection techniques I used, I feel they turned out well.

The Time Machine. As for the power source? Crystals, duh...

The back of the Time Machine. I am very happy with my use of the clocks :)

Next stop, 5689 A.D.!

Beach scene without crabs, figs, or machine. I feel better about my landscaping abilities, now that I've had a bit of practice - I know some pro landscapers are going to read this, any tips?

And the back, without crabs, figs, or machine.

Thanks for viewing!

Quoting LukeClarenceVan The Revanchist Good stuff, I really like that crab design. The time machine seems a bit simpler than I'd imagined, and I'm not sold on how the colours work with the rest of the MOC. However, the landscape's pretty good. I'd suggest using a subtler wave effect at this scale, and spice up the rest of the water with some waves or rocks. Same goes for the sand, some rocks or more textural variety would help. I like how it goes from dark tan to tan though, and the rockwork you do have is nice.
Thanks for the praise and feedback :D

Quoting Dylan Something Looks great! Very nice job on those crabs, however, the BURPs... Good job covering them up though.
Haha thanks, I just needed a quick rock formation to break up the beach

Quoting Stephen Boe I remember reading that book. I found that part very sad. This build is a near perfect representation, I just wish, you somehow could have made the sun set, there was a sun set right? Anyway, great build.
I believe that the earth had stopped rotating, and that it was in permanent sunset, but good idea anyway and thanks for the praise :)
