M.O. Round 1: Parthenos
Daughter of Apollo, said to have died a maiden, and taken her place in the heavens as the constellation Virgo.
About this creation

2013 MocOlympics.

Round 1 requires a build themed around any one of the signs of the Zodiac. I chose Virgo.

Since Parthenos is an ancient Greek goddess, it's only fair she should have a temple.

The constellation Virgo as it appears in the night sky. More or less.

Essentially a black brick box with strategically placed holes, and a white brick lining to diffuse the light from two 12V 1980s train lights. And ye olde transformer.

Classical elegance with attention paid to the number phi.

The stars come out in the day-time, too...

She's shown holding an ear of corn because Virgo is also linked to the harvest, although more by the ancient Babylonians than the Greeks.

Very nice work! The effect with the lights works so well in the background, it really makes this well-built scene come to life.

I really like the simple and pure lines of the temple. The idea to reproduce the constellation as it appears every night is a hit!! Great job!!

This is grand, a very elegant and clean build. Great way of realising the constellation! I see you are continuing to put your homemaker figures to good use too... if I'd realised how versatile they are I would've kept mine!

Great scene, I like the stars gimmick. I think the temple lacks the greek elegance and poise that I look for in parthenon builds, but it's not bad. Over-all, a bit more elaboration of the temple and an expansion of the scene would have been welcome. All said though, nice work!

I disagree with Matt. Whether Major Jane is a maiden or not, there's one set of features that ... never mind ... anyway, we expect nothing less from you builds! XD

I like the frieze, made from 2x2 turntable bases. The temple facade looks just right to me. Nice to see the old figure. i must do something with all of mine someday.

Loved all of it! I cannot believe the original LEGO Family figure parts are still around and that you could use one of them and their parts in your design!

Nick, the first photo is captivating! You certainly have been building wonders with the white brick! I like your use of the 2x2 cylinder round for the angel's waist... gives her a most delicate feminine look! Good Luck! :)

Quoting matt rowntRee I knew you'd throw out something fantastic! That temple is a stunner. She looks like Jane Houlihan, but it can't be because we all know that SHE ain't no "maiden". XD Excellent job Nick!
