MocOlympics 2013 Round 1: Let the Sunshine In!
It was the Dawning of the Age of Aquarius when an Apple was still a Fruit!
About this creation
This simple iconic build with its intriguing ability to renew itself by simple rotations of its Cartesian frame of reference can be found as my entry to Round 1 of the 2013 MocOlympics at this LINK.

But, the magical dreams of harmony & peace seem to have vanished with the coming of the Techno Age… things have gotten Topsy-Turvy!
Nature Girl has become a Blow-up-all-the-research-labs Animal Rights Activist Granny.
The Astrologer died of gunshot wounds inflicted by some misguided NRA Tea Partier.
And Hippie Guy has matured into an Astrophysical Engineer instead of a weatherman!

At least Granny didn’t stray too far from the fold. Her attire hints that she still bathes in the sunshine even at her age… although she now uses plenty of sunscreen!
Alas, the Astrologer has been replaced by the latest Fanatical Religious TV Guru.
Well, at least Hippie Dippie Guy didn’t lose his interest in the stars!
But, is sending a rocket armed with a radioactive lava warhead to the Sun really a solution to all the sunspot activity messing up cell phone communications?!
Guess Dr. Hippie Dippie indulged in too many shrooms or peyote back in the 60’s and they’ve all done a number in/on his head! Or… Maybe it was just all those dimensional matrix calculations he had to do to pass Orbital Mechanics 401? Those are sure to fry anyone’s brain!

And, just in case you missed its appearance in both layouts…

The Iconic 60’s Lava Lamp!

It is pictured here close-up for you to enjoy in all its mesmerizing convective glory!
The lamp gave Dr. Hippie Dippie the idea to search the world over for…
RADIOACTIVE LAVA to use in his rocket’s warhead! Yikes!
Oh, BTW…
9/02/2013 was the lamp’s 50th anniversary! Go to this LINK.

So has society kicked the metaphorical water bucket of Aquarius?
Or are we simply transitioning to another dimension… perhaps the 5th Dimension?
Only Time, the 4th Dimension, will tell!
Hey, in case you missed it…
It’s all about coordination and changing one’s frame of reference! ;)

You probably know already from the MocOlympics 'Round One Scores' thread, but it can't hurt to comment on your creation to tell you that you made it to Round 2. Congratulations. I was looking forward to your entry and I'm not disappointed. A lava lamp? It can't get any better than this.

Quoting cyberfrank 2010 I just adore the main pic scene! how is it I can t do that? how do you figure how to make these wonderful color schemes? it seems every time you make a beach type piece it s alive!
Well, I have always seemed to have a natural eye/instinct/whatever for color! As far as the alive part, that is a new one on me... never really thought about it. But I know what you mean... I often see things in others builds that they may not. That is what is neat about art! I do know that I have recently watched several Alfred H. films. Each time I view one of his films, I see something new. The man was a genius! Each scene shot is sooo perfectly spaced/placed/centered/lighted/etc.! So I would say, watch some of his movies with a new eye! :)

Quoting LukeClarenceVan The Revanchist This is one of those builds that makes you check what's in your medication. Fascinating use of colour and design, it's very tough to judge something like this. I enjoy the take on the category, and I think your colour use is very apt. However, I'm not convinced by the design itself - the build isn't spectacular in parts use or shape. That said, this is a great entry, and a fun scene.
So Luke, hee, hee, I assume you reread your medication dosage and/or blurb sheet on side effects? Yes, the build is real! And yes, I agree with your comments! But hey, you could have cut me a bit of slack in the NPU department. I mean... how many people have used Scala table top pieces for a sun?! ;)

Quoting Stuart Lucas Lovely, colourful and bonkers. I need to stare at this for a while and then figure out whether I'm sitting the right way up!
Ah, the right way with gravity as the determiner?! Is there reallly a 'right' way, is life an illusion, is art an illusion of reality, just what is reality, and what is truth? I'll stop now! :)

Quoting Josiah Samaniego The colors are really nice! All the best!
Thanks! Although I used a lot of colors, what makes them work together is the careful attention I played to their placement. That's real important! :)

Quoting Deus "Big D." Otiosus Yeah, yeah, O.K., but why does everybody think the age of Aquarius is a good thing?

Quoting matt rowntRee THE HIPPIE DIPPIE WEATHERMAN!!! God bless George Carlin! Awesome take on the category Topsy. Thank you for showing that thinking outside the box should be the norm. Diggin' the lava lamp and the psychedelic colors. Where's the black light? ;) Feel like I need to play some Doors on an LP while looking at this. Yeah, I said LP. Excellent!
Well, a George Carlin fan! I'm not surprised! I too don't understand what all the hoopla was about this category. Astrology is the foundation of the science of Astronomy. Alchemy is the foundation of the science of Chemistry for heavens sake(no pun indended!) And of course we know that many of the zodiac signs are based on the ancient Greek Mythology of their gods... and they were Aliens! Hee, hee! Doors... you ARE a transplated Californian! I had cousins who lived in Bel Air and they told me that all the hip kids listened to the Doors, not the Beatles! Thanks for the lovely comment Matt! :)

Thank you so much Joe for your kind words. I live in an area where camo is the ONLY neutral! Perhaps that is why I have this fixation on colour! All my life has been spent following rules, looking for patterns, and being organized. Perhaps that is why my builds are always topsy-turvy? :)
