MocOlympics Round 1: Zodiac
"The 12 Signs of the Zodiac." You know... Leo, Scorpio, Gemini and so on. Choose any ONE of the 12 Zodiac signs and build a moc incoorporating that ONE sign into it. (in case you haven't noticed, you're only allowed to choose ONE of the twelve signs). No size limits.
About this creation
MocOlympics Homepage
With my complete lack of any knowledge on the Zodiac and its symbols, I looked it up, and saw that Libra, the scales, was not some sort of creature. Sold. Here is a medieval market place outside a castle.

Citizens come from the surrounding villages to buy and sell their goods here at Fort Symmetry.

Here are the scales that connect my build to the category. They are in use by the Jewel trader who lives in the fort.

It took me a while to figure out how the get the scales down to minifig size, but I am quite pleased with how they turned out.

Here is the knight who keeps the order at the market. He has come to see if the weapons dealer has any exotic weapons like the mace he bought last year. This time, it seems only swords are for sale.

The weapons dealer always parks his horse and cart in the same spot, each year. He also makes sure his stall is the cleanest.

The lone knight stuck with guard duty is unable to join the festivities. He is required to shout to the knight below if any thieves are around.

This nobleman from a neighboring fort has come with a bodyguard. You never know if someone will try and take the mountains of gold and jewels you have in your pockets.

This flamboyant merchant has come to buy jewels as cheaply as he can; but the gem dealer has prepared with his scales, so he will notice any fake coins.

A young man ventures to the general wares stall for the best apples in the kingdom.

The general wares stall has basic tools, foodstuffs, and if you know the password, a treasure map.

This traveler has come from a long way off seeking work in Fort Symmetry.

A late arrival has come to set up his stall, but he may have missed a few customers.

Located on the river, For Symmetry has many ships coming by. This barge is here to join the market.

The barge's skillful skipper brings her close up to the dock as a fisherman catches his long-awaited dinner.

Bagpipe player Jamie McCrimmon travels on the barge, attracting attention from people on the shore.

Instead of poling her down the river, the skipper attached a sail and tiller to his barge.

Today the barge carries some shields, a bow, and a few coils of rope.

A family has set up camp outside the market. It smells like mother's stew is almost done.

The father shows his son how to shoot a crossbow.

Thanks for viewing my entry for the MocOlympics ! I thoroughly enjoyed building it; the barge is absolutely my favorite part.

Your combined total score for Round 1 of the 2013 MocOlympics is 10. Unfortunately you won’t be advancing to the next Round, but nice try and thanks for participating!

I can tell you have tried to include a variety of mini-scenes to give a big, interesting base and in that it's a success. A bit of variation in the flat base (when you have more plates) and maybe a few more details would help a lot but good job and good luck!

Not bad. There were some good details like the scales, I just wish there were more details like that. You've used a lot of space, but most of it's just empty. I think you'd have done better with building a small scene well rather than stretching your collection over a large space. The landscaping is very flat and blocky, I suggest sticking with a rectangular MOC and building up the landscape with plates and plants. Also, the castle wall could do with a bit of texture to break up the flat grey. I'd also have liked to have seen more stalls and market place action. I see that you know how to add details, now you just need to add more details per square inch.

Quoting Evan Botkin Awesome! I think that you could have put a bit more detail into it (more plants and plates to make it more uneven) but I really like the idea of the build. It is very original. Good luck in the contest!
I really did want to make it less flat, but I have a stunning lack of green plates :/

I also do think the connection could be stronger, but aside from that, nice build and good luck!

The build is pretty nice, but I think the connection to the category could be a bit stronger. Good luck!
