About this creation
This is the introduction to the novel CYOA that I'm doing. It's about parallel universes, and it's in the steampunk genre! CYOAs aren't often continued for long, but I promise to see this one through to the end. Enjoy...

Two worlds, locked in perfect harmony. Such a concept isn’t too hard to comprehend. There are many parallel universes across the plane of creation, however such an occurrence is rare. The difference between such universes can be close to ours, or such worlds can be completely different in every way. Our world and theirs was very much like the latter. You see, during the industrial era of their universe, many scientists were actually aware of the effects steam would have on the environment. Steam power was good, but it was flawed. They determined that any source of power would have a negative impact. That was, until they discovered rotonium.

Rotonium was a rare mineral that had rather strange properties. When placed in the sun, it stored energy. With some human intervention, it could release the energy as steam. Scientists, using the elements of their world, found a way to easily, cheaply and effectively replicate the substance. It could now come in liquid, semi-solid and solid form. Scientists released this information publicly. This led to a high supply and demand situation. Since this could be made easily, prices fell dramatically. Eventually, even the poor could afford their own Rotonium to power their everyday lives.

The greatest part about Rotonium was that it caused little damage to the environment around it. Rotonium was considered a bare necessity in society. However, the king of the country that discovered the substance at that time saw things otherwise. He wanted to control it, saying that the prices should go higher so as to create more income. Although nobody knows, they say this opinion was merely driven by greed. The king, however, took no notice. He started making deals with the underworld, hoping that he could put the prices up even higher than he already had. When he was found out, his execution was called. When the day he was meant to die came, he vanished.

On the day of the king’s disappearance, a democracy was formed. Since the king had no next of kin, the royal bloodline ended. The world simply assumed that the king had committed suicide, even though his body was never found. The prices of Rotonium were lowered even further than before, and the world once again experienced a time of great peace. The city where the king had once resided became the largest manufacturer of Rotonium, as well as all things powered by it. The city became the central point of the world, and was given a fitting name; ‘Central Junction’.

Hundreds of years passed, and still the world was at peace. Then, however, something changed. From the depths of Central Junction rose a criminal society bent on destroying the government. They called themselves ‘Blood Brotherhood’, and throughout the years they got stronger. Eventually they began to build mecha that could even rival those the police force had built. Both sides were evenly matched. It was clear that if the conflict were to continue, the government forces might not be able to stop them. But then something completely unprecedented happened. Blood Brotherhood started to slow down their attacks. They became less of a threat, although nobody knew why…

As spies dove deeper into the reasons behind this, they discovered that at some point Blood Brotherhood had discovered that there was a parallel universe connected to theirs. Although the government tried to keep the operation to stop this secret, one of the spies leaked the information to a small group of individuals that she trusted most. After this, nobody knew what happened. The rest of the story is shrouded in the mists of espionage. That being said, one fact is certain. That universe they found is our universe. If they cross over, there’s no knowing what they’d do…
