Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona
For a 'MOC off' between me and The LegoNoitAll, for which we had to build four wide versions of the Daytona, without the use of 1x1 and 1x2 cheese slopes.
About this creation
Building without cheese slopes was just as tricky as I anticipated. When I first began building, I kept subconsciously using them! Eventually I think I managed to get a reasonable looking version. Obviously the front is too long, but unfortunately I don't own any of these new slopes, which is a shame as they would've been useful!

The 'pièce de résistance', some simple undercarriage detailing. To get the wheels to poke out I used some technic pins.

Thanks for viewing!

Quoting Scott Bertaut Really nice. With the long front end it looks more like a Plymouth Superbird then a Daytona, but really good none the less. I have never built 5 wides, but even building 8 wides is sometimes hard to do without cheese slopes. I nice car, really like the bottom, the way you attached the wheels may not be quite "legal" but who cars when it works this well! An epic 5 wide and epic car in general!
I blame the long front on the parts and time limitation ;) Thank you very much. What stops that connection from being legal? It fits well and firmly clicks into place, it's only the same as a putting them onto a 3mm rod. Thanks again!

Quoting Nils O. And now your rating: - Overall shaping: 8/10 - The side view is quite close to the original, only the front overhang is too long. I think 2 studs would have been better. You could have used a 4x2x2/3 curved slope instead of the 4 1x3x1 ones for that. The proportion of the window section is good and the height of the rear end is right. A great idea for the air channels on the front hood (bad luck that your opponent had the same idea). The power train is a nice detail. Some curves on the side panels would have been nice. - Building techniques: 4/5 - Nice SNOT rear end and a double half plate offset of the window section achieved with "double jumper plates". A clever combination of "normal" wheel holders with Technic pins and matching wheels. - Parts usage: 3/5 - Nothing spectacular, but some nice details. The use of the grill plates on the front and the wheel holders with the Technic pins stand out. - Total: 15/20 - Congratulations, your opponent got a 13/20, so you are the winner of the MOCoff! :-))
Thanks Nils, I agree entirely with all your points. I hope to see your version soon, and also your '02 updates! Thanks for judging!

Quoting matt rowntRee I think shaping, LegoNoitAll got the lower body except for the rear end. Your front end, as you noted is too long. Agreed by 2 studs. Your front undercarriage with the grills and rounds looks better. And what puts yours ahead of LegoNoitAll's is the rear, the "C" posts, and the general feel of the shaping. A beautifully tough challenge. Hats off to both of you for a pair of valiant efforts.
I always knew the front was too long, I just didn't have the pieces to sort it. Thanks a lot, Matt!

Quoting Achintya Prasad Love it man! What was the point of banning 1x1 and 1x2 cheese slopes, though? I dunno how people built stuff out of LEGO without them.....
Thanks! Basically I said to TLNA that it would be practically impossible to build a small scale curvy car without them, which he took as a challenge, and before I knew it I was being challenged to a MOC off! Which of course I couldn't decline ;)
