About this creation
Come to Barrie's for all your needs!

Here is my department store street scene.

It's 4 storeys tall and the interior is fully furnished.

The ground floor is a food hall. The 1st floor is furniture and home wares. The second floor is ladies wear and the top floor is a restaurant.

The exterior design is inspired by a department store in my hometown of Newcastle Upon-Tyne. There is a picture at the back of the set for reference. Since that picture was taken the building has undertaken some expansion and looks different but I loved the high windows and expansiveness of this building and wanted to keep that in my creation. The ground floor is my own creation. With my habit of creating a new vehicle for every new model I chose to make a tram this time round. It was not a tram found in that area at the time. It's loosely based on the balloon trams from Blackpool(UK) in the late 1930's. It's not meant as an exact replica I just loved the streamlined design.

Great job! I love the bus, but maybe you should try to build a different genre.

Beautiful building! I love the detail and the color, that would make a dream creation for a kid because it is very playable and it would make the father frustrated because he would have a hard time assembling it LOL :D

Quoting david Jackson Wow! Love the details. A masterpiece. How many studs wide is the piece?
Thanks! I think the building is around 74 studs wide on the upper floors. There is a recess of 1 stud for the ground and top floors i think. Its long been dismantled so i can't help anymore than that. Apologies.

Quoting Barrie Crossan Beautiful build. Almost looks like it's real rather than lego! I love the early 20th century theme you've used too.
Thanks!

Quoting Robert P I love this amazing MOC. I just finished building Avenue Saint-Jacques and I am wondering if Snaillad is planning for "Rebrickers" to create and sell instructions for this incredibly designed MOC? I would probably build it in gray, since white LEGO bricks easily fade over time. I also would design and create a removal rear facade so that the MOC could be viewed in my modular city from all angles.
Hello, I do not make or sell the instructions as my models are designed without instructions and then reverse engineered. Perhaps the department store will be available some day! I'm sure it would also look appropriate in tan or grey.

This is the real deal. Looking at it, I thought the architecture was fantastic. The colour use magnificent. The textures, sublime. All in all, it was an incredible MOC. Then I saw the trolly with eggs on platters - and realized that incredible is a vast understatement.

Quoting Allan Hall excellent, great to see a build from the northeast, the street view is outstanding. and some great interior work too. I thought it was based on a coop building, thanks for the photo. ps. it would be great if you could do the Christmas window later on in the year.
Thanks! A lot of co-op buildings have a similar style, I am guessing they were built around the same time. The left hand side window has a small Christmas display just like Fenwicks window.

Quoting Nick Pascale Love it...you brought me back to the days I worked in R.H. MACY*S in NEW YORK CITY when I was putting myself through school! In the employee cafeteria they wheeled our lunch out to us if we were assistant managers or managers and 4 times a week our lunch was FREE! I was impressed with your window decorating skills! I loved each department and got a kick out of the women's shoe department --- a woman cannot have enough shoes!!! I wish you could have seen me smile when I looked at the men's room!!!!! Come see my stuff. I too do research and for that reason I loved your old postcard of the store! A CLASSY TOUCH! Are You Being Served?
Thank you! The shop I was inspired by always has a well decorated winter window. I believe the design of the building dates in the reference picture from the early 1900's.

Wow! The details on this modular are outstanding, both interior and exterior. My favorite part is probably the furniture department, but there is so much to choose from that I might change my mind if I spent another few minutes looking at it. The trolley is a great "bonus feature".
