My fourth entry to the 2013 Bio Cup. The category, "Tiatanize!" So I present you, the larger and far more dangerous version of the former toa Derenk, or simply, Dernek V4!
About this creation
So, this is it! Never thought I would get this far against greats like Shadowgear, Chro, and Instant Noodles. Still, I did, so here, he is!
Why, hello again! I am Mr. Z, here to tell more of the former Toa Derenk's Story! Let's see, when we last left Derenk, he was...Oh! He was happy again, with a steed and friend! Well, that didn't last long!
While happy with his new company, Dernek was still restless. He yearned to redeem himself from the horrors he had caused, and to find a way to live again. He soon heard of a man who could supposedly bring the dead to life again. Naturally, Dernek investigated.
When he arrived at the hut, Derenk entered alone, as this was his mission. He told Lectiy to leave, and to come back after three days, just in case something went wrong and Derenk had to kill again.
When he entered, the man said he could bring the dead to life, but at a price. Derenk agreed on the price, which was forced labor for a year. (Xanth, anybody?) He was then put under a spell that caused him to fall asleep.
When he awoke, he knew he was alive. But before he could celebrate, he was warped to another world, which also happened to be in another dimension. When he reoriented, he found himself in a dungeon, being probed by many strange beings.
Before he could react, however, something shot through his brain. He then blacked out. When he awoke, he could not remember anything that had happened before. If he could, he would have realized that he had a new body, one that was better suited to the purpose his new masters wanted him to fill.
He was brought before his masters, who informed him that he was now their warrior, and that he must prove himself or else he would die. So Dernek did. He became their champion.
Pleased, the masters told him he was now a makuta, which meant something different in that dimension. He was to lead their men into battle, aided by the, "enhancement" they had given him.
This, "enhancement" was the ability to, when enraged, be surrounded by dark energy that greatly increased his offensive powers, giving him the element of shadow for a short time. With this, he killed hundreds of soldiers and many civilians.
However, even with his missing memory, Dernek sometimes got this overwhelming feeling that this was wrong, and that he was to be protecting the people he killed, not harming them. This was so strong at times, Derenk would be reduced to a quivering pile on the ground.
So Dernek was alive, but at a cost too high, if he could still remember.
4th Wall: Whew! On the fly story! Not a fun thing to do! Anyhoo, This guy was fun to build! I am pleased at how he looks, especially the feet.
Pic of upper leg, with dark spike.
Back forearm, with double joint!
See that? That helps hold the leg armor on! I would love to use that more in the future!
This is the last thing his enemies see, dark claws.
Flash accident, but looks really cool!
When he is not rage induced, his old weapon, the ax! Now bigger and better than ever!
See? Really long!
Pondering the mixed feelings.
Comparison with ruler, not quite 12 inches. 11 and 1/2 to be exact, or 29cm.
You might be wondering, "Why is there another picture of his totally awesome foot?" Well, the answer is that the joint circled fell out so many times, I wanted to throw it across the room. And also because the foot is totally awesome. :)
Bye! Wish me luck, mortals!
Well, there he is! I thought he was amazing, better than anything I had ever done before, until I tried posing. Then, he was as annoying as missing points on an easy math test by forgetting to put a negative sign. Wish me luck! I'm up against Chro and Shadowgear this round, so I have my work cut out for me! Oh, and link to the contest! The 2013 Bio Cup! Bye! Thanks for viewing! Comments and especially suggestions for future MOCs appreciated!
Just checked the homepage, Derenk is there! This is a first for me! Can anybody tell me how to get a snip or screen shot on this page? Thanks a ton, guys!
Good entry. Nice feet and looks like the character. However, there are some problems: Arms look too long and the lower part don't flow very well, and the torso, although shows some interesting dcorative techniques here and there, looks pretty flimsy and a bit too long, specially given the lenght of the legs. Back could use some work also. Overall, not bad, but seems kinda rushed to me. I give it a 6.
I agree with the other judges, and I also find this to be a rather messy and a bit poluted build. A white background would help your case, improving upon the moc. Still, this is an imposing entry with a good deal of personality! Well done! Your score: 7
A lean and imposing figure, I rather like some of the part usage. Some issues remain though, like some areas lacking coverage, most notably the shoulders and waist. While others like the tapered look, the droopy shoulders kind of ruin it for me. Overall, a nice true-to-original figure. 7 points.
Gaunt and towering, certainly does look imposing. Great part usage for the feet and armor. I'm in agreement that the tapered torso looks especially good. Certain areas which I guess cannot be helped are the joint areas where they appear quite thin. A balance of appearance vs poseability. A minor nitpick and are mostly unseen when posed well enough. You get a 7.
I really liked the tapered shaping that those grey fangs added to the front and back of the ribcage, and the SIZE of this long and lean MOC. Where so much symmetry has been built, I found the crooked tires filling around the articulated waist joint (well done!) a bit ... distracting. Slippage? Or was that needed to firm up the joint? Last minor nit, GP; since you filled out the waist tapering, I wanted to see a bit more thickness in the neck articulation, just to balance. Still not bad. Anyway, sinister and lithe, nice work. Torn between a 7 and 8, so I'm going with an 8. Cheers!~
