USS Enterprise CVN-80 (1/350 scale)
Welcome discerning MOCcers! Prasad Heavy Industries is happy to accommodate you at the launch of its newest vessel, the USS Enterprise CVN-80!
About this creation
Before I begin my commentary (if you have seen my previous few creations, you can see its an attempt at comedy) I want to dedicate this carrier to the men and women in all militaries worldwide. These folks risk their lives, so that we can live; that is something that I feel we can never, ever, fully appreciate. Even so, I will try my best effort to thank each and every veteran. There are a few MOCcers here on the 'pages; next time you comment on one of their creations, do remember to forward a thanks to them for their service.

ATTENTION!

SALUTE!

Onwards to the carrier..........

So we begin here, at the bow of the ship (best be rowing cabin boy, or we'll be swamped, ya hear?). See the island in the background! No, not Hawaii. Or Japan. Or Treasure Island. The tall grey thing, of course! (Now you can picture the other islands, if you want....

Looks like we just managed to get off that dingy, and onto a helicopter. (Hey, as CEO of Prasad Heavy Industries, I can charter a helicopter!) See the wide and sweeping deck!

Anyways, here are some stats for ya:

  • Length:~four feet long (or, if you're anywhere else in the world, a little over ~1 Meter)
  • Weight: ~10 pounds (or, if you're anywhere else in the world, 4.5KG)
  • Height: (from bottom to top of the mast) 9 inches (or, if you're anywhere else in the world, ~23 CM)
  • Length in studs: 148 studs
  • Height in bricks: 20
  • +3,000 parts (exact number unknown, but, considering that I used over 500 2x2 light bluish grey tiles just on the deck, I say its a fair and accurate estimate)

Everyone remembers this, right? Carrier hashtag 80! (CVN-80) Beats the pants off most mosaics*.

(Part of Prasad Heavy Industries' "false advertising" campaign)

Looks like we have arrived during carrier ops (dunno how that happens on launch day, but still!) Notice the two 1x1 orange-neon plates; watch them represent exhaust, simply flaming out of the F-35s, as the planes are locked in mortal combat, with gravity and lift clashing in a living way! YES! That's whats happenin'.

Looks like the jet blast deflectors are in the down position......

I couldn't avoid that gap in the deck, as otherwise they wouldn't raise and lower....

*Adopts wildlife program host accent* "Crikey, lookie here! We have got a prime example of a Hornet in its own habitat. What a treat mate! Let's poke it with a stick....... Oh no, its angreey!"

Aircraft, just chillin' on deck. Notice how almost none of the planes have folded wings; that cause they're on high alert. Obviously.

Like I said: in a living way!

This here fancy ole' machine is one type o' missile launcher, called the RIM-116, protects the ship if any Chinese missiles "enemy" missiles come barreling at it. (Way to start an International incident, eh?)

Now you see, this is a different launcher (the ESSM) (located below the F-35). Coolio! (totally uncalled for).

On the subject of shipboard defense, here is famous CIWS system; built in LEGO!

Here is another shot of the CIWS system, and an ESSM launcher, both located on the back of the SHIP. I'm especially proud with how the platform for the CIWS system was made; go figure....

Alright, I'll keep quiet for the next few pics. This is ze Island (oh my gosh, not Madagascar!). I'll go ahead and say, this island had some SERIOUS SNOT work in it (you know what I mean!). Bits and bobs are going in every direction (just like when I tried to make a milkshake last week) inside the structure; its quite complex.....

Yet another missile launcher, in case missiles come from this side of the ship!

Profile of the entire ship, cause I don't think I have done that yet (yes this was a well planned post!)

Hornet!

Looks like a B-2 decided to make a show.....

YEEESS, Enterprise meets Enterprise! (note: not to scale. At all. Like, you don't want to know).

I didn't reveal this in the aircraft post, but this is a folded C-2 Greyhound (no, not the bus). Its a transport aircraft, and is based on the E-2C Hawkeye (no, not the Avenger).

Wait, whats this? Alright, in case I haven't left enough clues, here's the deal. I, well, motorized one of the elevators on board. Yup, thats why you saw a battery box in one of the previous WIPS; though at this point there isn't much surprise. The following video shows the internal mechanism.

Hmm, looks like we have some new aircraft landing......

Yup! I didn't post these in the aforementioned post either; but here they are! They are based on the X-47B, manufactured by Northrop Grumman Prasad Heavy Industries!

Random view. At least, relative to the recent flow. Yeah.

Look! I even made a video for the ship!

...just a little something to show off the ship!

Throughout this build, I have found a few people that I thought were worthy of a mention:
Locutus 666 - This is the person that started it all. I saw his work on the USS Enterprise (CVN-65), and I thought "Hmm, that looks cool, let me try!" and then began the descent into....... in short, if you haven't had enough carrier action (which is entirely possible) then he is the go to guy!
Ed Bangor who was wealth of knowledge. Always kept me on my toes! (Oh, and Ed, I didn't have any pictures of those helis as most were in the hanger bay. I do apologize for that.)
Chris Phipson who actually took time out to review my creation, and give me a few tips, thanks Phipson!
(Please let me know if I forget someone; I will make sure to add your name ASAP).

Thank you all so very much for watching; all the support I had on this project was simply overwhelming; and I am happy to share the fruits of this great adventure!

-Edit-

Well, this was a surprise:

And then this happened:

Thanks to all for this!

Quoting Chris Bramley many thanks for adding me as a favourite, much appreciated! im not a huge fan of many lego styles other than castle, but i am a big fan of anything related to military history, that includes reading, and documentaries as well as lego, and i must say this is one VERY impressive build! i love the planes, i didnt ever think a build like this would look good in micro-scale, but im pleased to say that you have proved me wrong! amazing build. Chris

Quoting Maxime MaxSamAlex Awesome ship! The planes are very creative, and the SNOT is also very well made, especially on the island. I really like the fact that one of the elevators moves, you should try connecting the motor onto one axle that moves all the elevators. I don't know it that's possible, but nice creation anyways! The movies are nice too.
Thanks! Well, seeing the set up, I suppose, but it would've added a least another week to the build. I originally had two of the elevators motorized; the one across from the island was to be motorized. However, it was to far outboard for my mechanism to work. Also, the one that was in the very front was too far away from the IR receiver to connect. In the end, I was forced to go this way. Ah well....

Thanks for the advice. However, you do have to factor in the fact that it isn't completely solid on the inside. It has a bit of a frame on the inside, and elaborate parts stuck together in hundreds of different permutations to keep the hanger bay together.

Quoting Locutus 666 Maybe this moc gets a 1/5 from me.... :D just kidding! ;) Sry for the late comment but i was away this week. I just could have a short look on it via mobile phone and couldnt believe it. :) Its impressive and Im now scared of the size this thing has and my one will get (even if I already know of its size). The moving elevator will be hard to beat for me. Are the jet blast shields now motorized too? Im also impressed by the time you pushed that thing to reality. What will be next? :) And thanks for the announcement. Im honored to be inspirement 4 you. I got another order this day. I think I will start work on the hull this weekend.....
Thats excellent news! Sadly, I didn't have an PF extension cables, so I couldn't motorize the jet blast deflectors (sigh) but still, I'm pretty proud of it overall! Yeah, I might have bent my calculation a little (just a little :-) but, you know, I'm pretty happy with the detail, so. I do look forward to your carrier as well; that, my friend, will be a mind-boggling creation ;-)

Quoting El Barto ! Awesome build, Dude! Turned out great, especially with that elevator rig. I wonder if they might want this for an Enterprise museum or something. Didn't they just decommission it? Anyway, impressive model of an iconic vessel. Congrats!
Thanks El Barto! (Do I put another exclamation point after that?) Anyways, unfortunately, the Enterprise that was recently decommissioned (the one Locutus is working on) has been relegated to the scrapyard; it was deemed to expensive to be converted, which is quite, quite sad. Now, in the case of the mechanics of the elevator, all you really have to do is just turn it on its side, and you your mechanism for the flight pods; I would recommend to use an XL motor, and one, large axle, as well as a few extra technic plates with grooves in them for your model (if you so choose to use it).

Quoting Tim C Well, Achintya, I tip my cap. This is spectacular. The detail had to have been very time-consuming and I am envious of your 2X2 lt. bley tiles. Some of the most versatile pieces; you can never have enough, and I certainly don't. The control tower is brilliantly built and I love all the micro aircraft. I also like the shaping that was used to create the underside of this mammoth craft. Nice work on the motorized elevator as well. Four feet long, eh? I have a new goal now;) My only suggestion, to get some of the popularity you're looking for, is to give it a background. A shot of this beast in the open sea may be just what the doctor ordered. That is not to pull from your accomplishment on this build, though. Anyone would be proud to display this. Great work, Achintya!
Thanks Tim! Means a lot coming from a builder like you! Hmm, yeah, a background was something I originally planned on, but never got around to :-/ I'll fire up Lightroom, and see what I can do; I do wish to see this creation hit at least 50 likes, which seems distant (though today, judging from my activity bar, looks like a slow day...) but not unattainable. with all the debating I saw you make, I was afraid you might not have time to build, guess I was wrong, in 4 years on the pages, I never saw as much carriers as I do now, I m happy to say that each of them is worth looking at, I agree on the soldiers, although some orders might be debatably wright, the soldiers themselves are worth every bit of honor that comes to them, as for you, you re still funny as ever, lol, your narration alone is worth looking your posts for, this carrier is a treat, hot sculpting, cool planes, technical information, and a star trek comparison, lol, nicely done!!!

What a wonderful build! Full of detail, great building solutions, even working stuff! You're right to be proud of this. It's a beauty.

i haven't been on mocpages in a while, and what, i walk right into this beautiful creation? I just have to say one thing. I'm blown away. i love how you made the carrier proportionate to the planes. great detail everywhere! and the elevator, that's like a bow on top of the present! Super job man! 5/5

Now that is one big boat! Absolutely fantastic detail and presence. Love the working elevators. The island is truly a thing of beauty. Accompanied by your aircraft, this thing shines like a gem. Congratulations on a superior build and a wonderful message! You should be very proud, she's a keeper!

Quoting Reaper the Ultimate . Well, this is simply OUTSTANDING! I cannot fully express my pure amazement at this cretion. This carrier is simply superb in all manners. The elevator is especially ingenious. You have included a level of detail that (for me) is hitherto unforeseen in a microscale MOC. Having built a SHIP (The Thunder Child is not as long as this carrier, but it is taller), I can understand the trials and tribulations you must have gone through in the process of creating this mammoth vessel. The only thing I can think to fault is that you didn't include a hangar deck, so that your marvelous elevator married up with a deck. As an Aussie, I found the Steve Irwin joke very funny. The one thing you didn't include was "I'm gonna poke it with a stick". Congratulations on a magnificent MOC. It MUST reach the homepage.
Thank you! Actually, there is a hanger deck, but I simply couldn't get good pictures of them. Hmm. I'll try my luck again soon.....

Quoting Wombat The Wise Perhaps something like this (http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Wombat/Randoms/iphone_081.jpg) would be more accurate in size, but I do agree with you that it would probably look less good on the ship + it would look strange with it being higher than the runway. Anyway, just thought it was worth pointing out as the rest of the build is as good as it is. Absolutly stunning. Now, on to the rest of the carrier group. ;)
Huh. That looks pretty good. But yeah, I would have trouble with its height. 1/350 scale Arleigh Burkes? Hmm. That might be my next project.....

Quoting Wombat The Wise I know I've said it before, but somethings are just worth repeating, and this is one of thoes things: absolutly brilliant! The amount of detailing you have put into this is just mind bobbeling. Two things though: the "Sea RAM" seems more like a RIM-116 Rolling Airframe Missile to me (Sea RAM uses the radar and electro-optical system from the Phalanx CIWS and only contains 11 missiles instead of the 21 that the RIM-116 has). Also, to me the Phalanx CIWS seems a bit on the small side as it is 4,7m in height (which should roughly translate to 1,35cm). All in all though this is one of the most impressive MOCs I've seen. 5/5. =)
Thank you! Yay! Someone was reading and caught the mistake! Thanks! The problem with the CIWS was simply that eventually, it was getting dimensions that I doubt you can get out of LEGO. That size seemed to look nice on carrier; it didn't outshine any section, but you could still see it and recognize it, so I felt that we could stretch accuracy a little :-)

Quoting TheLegoNoitAll . I have no words... This must be way more than 3,000 parts, I'm thinking more like 5,000. This is HUGE. Now if i could build a 1:20 scale one to go with my cars, I can't imagine what kind of bill Bricklink will be sending me for that... You know, I'll just stick to cars.
Well, lets see. 1:20 scale.....wow! well over 1,000 studs long.....yup, that can be relegated to our imagination!

Quoting Michael K. Epiiiiic! Will you keep it together, or break it up eventually? As for the blast deflectors, I'd use different hinges to cover the gaps, here's an idea. http://images.mocpages.com/user_images/56492/1375382727m_SPLASH.jpg http://images.mocpages.com/user_images/56492/1375382754m_SPLASH.jpg http://images.mocpages.com/user_images/56492/1375382787m_SPLASH.jpg
Thanks for the comment! I spent a few days messing around with the technique you brilliant explained in those pics; though, I find a few problems with it: A) it wasn't extremely strong B) when you add tiles to the top of it, it really restricts the movement (though you could get around it using 2x4 tiles) C), and this is the big one, it didn't give me the desired height and slope. It did look nice from the back (it looked like it had the correct actuators on the back) but in the end, I went with the other design.

Quoting Deus "Big D." Otiosus I am impressed at the scale, detail function, and also presentation. This must be a very importaint creation for you. How much attention do you think it will attract?
Well, I hope that it manages to head my homepage as the most liked creation with 50 likes, and maybe even hit "Across the Pages" section as well, like Michael said. Though really, the major thing is the message at the beginning; I realized that I might get some attention for this creation, and I figured "Might as well put something nice on it" and there you have it!
