VTOL Fighter
F-38 Whirlwind. A "what if" fighter. What if a VTOL fighter was developed specially for the role, apart from the F-35B leaving that airplane to the CTOL roles. Here is my result. Its powered by a PCB engine creating 25000lb of thrust. There are 2 nozels at the sides of the fuselage, as well as a rear burner that swivels down, all with after burners. This arrangement is more efficient than the lift fan of the F-35b. The craft is capable of mach 1.6. Its armed with 2 meteors and 2 IRSTS as well as a center line cannon. There are 4 points under the wing, and one under the fuselage for ordinance, the outer wings being missiles only. Its designed to be a small as possible, which is important for a VTOL fighter. VTOL performance, cost and maintenance are deemed more important than stealth. Kind of a cross between a Yak 41(lower rear), a F-35 (layout), and an F-15 Eagle, which brings me to my next creation........

Quoting cyberfrank 2010 rock n design! I was thinking of upgrading my 'pocket rockets' and make them bigger, yours is a fine example of how I should proceed, I ll probably use thiner vertical fins, but, the rest is excellent! blue is a neat color for it, not often used, have you installed a landing gear? it seems you forgot to mention any...a small glitch mabe?
I dont incorporate landing gear in any of my designs. Im looking for the truest look, and quite often including them makes the craft bulky. For instance this craft they should be located under the cockpit, and I couldn't use those inverted pieces. The main gear should be in the wing, which would make the wing look to thick. I really look for that swoosh factor.....

Agree with everyone else - it does look a lot like an F-15. Very neat build, looks very playable.

Very nice! I mirror what is being said below; has the shaping of an F-15. Nice concept!

A neat looking fighter aircraft. I agree that it has the look of the F-15. I like the blue and white colour-scheme and the contouring around the nose. The tracks work really well as an afterburner.
