On board The Manipulator, Blast stood with his hands behind his back, gazing out of the main viewing wall on the bridge, just staring blankly into space. He’d left his helmet on it’s stand in his room and now was gazing blankly, his eyes glazed over, deep in thought.
Other than Blast, the room was deserted. The last of the pilots had just exited the crew quarters below and all was silent and still, giving Blast perfect peace to think.
He sighed quietly as he came around, blinking a few times.
Behind him, the door quietly swooshed open and Padfoot, also without his helmet on, walked in. He spotted Blast and quietly walked over.
Outside it was pitch black and the lights on the bridge provided a calm if slightly eerie light to see by inside.
“Evening, R.K..” he greeted as he stood beside him.
“Evening Pad’.” Blast replied, still gazing ahead.
After a few moments a silence Blast answered with a hint of sadness in his voice, “Yeah, I’m alright thank you.”
“You sure?” Padfoot looked at him, concerned.
Blast massaged his cheek with his hand and sighed quietly.
“We’re nearly there, Padfoot. Nearly at the end of this accursed war.”
“How can you tell?”
“I just can.” R.K. turned to look at his friend and comrade. “I can sense it. The end is coming. And it’s very close.”
He looked back out of the window again.
“These are the waning hours of the war. Soon, it’ll all be over.”
There were a few seconds of silence and then Padfoot asked, “Then what?”
Blast pursed his lips and sighed again. Turning to face his second in command he said, “Depends who wins.”
Padfoot thought on that and looked at the ground by his feet as R.K. patted him on the shoulder as he walked away up the catwalk.
He glanced after him and replied, “Night Blast.”
The Next Day…
The F.I.S. fleet blasted out of hyperspace and slowly flew towards the giant Space Ring that was floating up ahead.
Below them lay Coruscant, the planet-sized city that was the heart of the Universe at the center of the core worlds. Buzzing with life as always, the planet attracted life forms from the deepest reaches of space.
The F.I.S. were only there for one reason though and that was to simply re-fuel. The Space Ring they were headed for was a giant fuel station for large ships and cruisers that couldn’t go down into the planet’s atmosphere to top up.
There was already one cruiser docked there but being circular, the Ring could re-fuel numerous ships at a time.
Both The Desolation and The Calm Before The Storm docked with the Ring and straight away the droids that worked on and ran the fueling station got to work with the huge pipes that fed the fuel into the cruiser’s tanks.
Iadsgb had just got back from speaking to the manager droid about the amount of fuel to put in the ships when Jelli came up to him.
“Sir, the men are about to attempt to break into Biosnake’s lab again.” She informed him.
“Okay, thank you Jelli.” He replied and walked past her, down the corridor in the direction of the mass-murderer’s laboratory.
“Ready? And three, two, one, clear!” a mechanic shouted from his crouched position by the door to Biosnake’s lab just as Iadsgb got there.
A small group of six men were all gathered around the door trying to break in.
Since Biosnake’s massacre of the captive Twi’lek and his attack on the leaders, he’d locked himself away in his lab and booby-trapped the door to stop anybody getting in. It had taken Iadsgb, Jamie, Fixer and Rogue most of the afternoon before they, along with a small team on the other side, had managed to clear the rubble in the corridor so that they could get through.
Iadsgb stood back and watched as the mechanic activated a small device that he had pressed to the door’s lock…
Then he rolled his eyes and walked off as the mechanic cried out and shot backwards into the wall as a huge electrical current surged through the door and his device.
“Hopeless…” The head of the F.I.S. mumbled.
On The Manipulator…
“I still say we should act now! Before they realize we’re on their trail!” Hess argued.
The leaders of the U.R.S. were all crowded into Blast’s study, discussing their next move. They couldn’t risk any possible spies listening in on their plan, hence the reason for their choosing to have the meeting in Blast’s office.
“I agree.” Said Flare.
“I just feel it’s too soon.” Padfoot added and looked around at everyone. “What say you Blast?”
R.K. was sat in his chair, one leg resting atop the other and leaning his chin on his fist. It took a moment for him to say anything but then answered, “I think if we’re going to act, it may as well be sooner rather than later.”
“Exactly!” Flare agreed. “The longer we wait, the more chance there is of them finding the tracer.”
Blast nodded at this.
“Then that settles it?” Slash checked.
“I must admit I’m with Padfoot on this one.” Interjected Shock. “We need to give it more time, work things through and come up with a proper plan. We have no idea what could be waiting for us if we just turn up, get on board and attack them! They could have anything in there!”
“But…” Flacon stared to speak but Blast spoke over him.
“Wise words, however I already have a plan. There has always been a plan and it is the plan we’re going to stick to.”
He looked around at all of their faces; some confused, some blank, some just looking right back at him.
“Go on then. Explain.” Padfoot prompted from where he sat perched on the edge of Blast’s desk.
Blast took a deep breath, slowly let it out and began to explain his plan.
“I will pilot the old F.I.S. shuttle, the one we got from them after we escaped Alsodo, to where the F.I.S fleet currently sits.”
“Coruscant.” Falcon confirmed. Earlier on, they’d checked that the tracker Padfoot had placed on Callum was still transmitting and it was.
“Correct.” R.K. nodded to him. “I’ll get aboard The Desolation and find Iadsgb…”
“That’s suicide, Blast, and you know it is!” Padfoot argued but R.K. put up his hand.
“I haven’t finished. Meanwhile, you’ll exit hyperspace at their co-ordinates, taking them by surprise. The fighters and bombers will be ready and will set out, attacking the cruisers as soon as you get there. You lot will dash across through the confusion and fighting and sneak aboard The Des’. That means that their forces will be spread between fighting in the space battle and trying to hold you lot at bay. Hopefully my presence will remain a secret and so I’ll be able to sneak past them all as they’re fighting you and get to Iadsgb before he realizes what’s going on.”
R.K. finished and looked around at them all and they stood there looking back in silence.
“That’s madness.” Padfoot stated suddenly. “There’s no way it would work! You wouldn’t even be able to get on board! They know exactly which shuttle they gave us, if they see it’s trying to get in, they’d blast it to smithereens!”
“No they won’t. I can get on board.”
“Don’t you worry about that, just know that I can. I can and I will.”
Padfoot shook his head.
“So who’s with me?” Blast asked, standing up.
“As always, sir.” Falcon replied, nodding.
“Of course.” Slash stated.
“Until the end.” Nightblaze said with a grin.
“Sounds like fun to me!” Flare answered.
“Oh yes!” Hess said, smiling and nodding.
“Padfoot? Shock?” R.K. asked, looking at them both.
“Well as I have no intention of being left behind and it seems like it’s going to happen anyway, I may as well.” Shock said and nodded.
They all looked to Padfoot who shook his head solemnly.
“Ah hell…” he grumbled and stood up. He put his right arm out straight in front of him with his fist clenched. “U.R.S. ‘till the end, boys.”
One by one the other leaders all did the same, so that they all had a hand in the center of what had now become a circle.
“Until the end.” Blast repeated.
And then together they chanted, “U.R.S.!”
