Ocel the Winter Knight
My entry to the Battle of the Judges in 2013 Bio-Cup
About this creation
There is a distant world that is eternally cold and frozen.

The local dominant species, scathers, can manage in the all-year winter, as their physiology has allowed them so. Possessing aerodynamic structure, thin feet and great endurance, they are all natural skaters and skiers. Their jobs highly depend on the width of their feet. Wide for snow and thin for ice, if you're working outside the villages. Too wide and you're stuck with a more local job or on special cases are sent to deep snowed areas.

The few locations that provide supplies and nutrition have become villages, which all have great distances between them.

In order to send messages and items, the villagers rely on so called Winter Knights, who are the finest and fittest among them, capable of traveling great distances. Again, snow or ice depending on width of the feet.

Ocel is one of them. His sharp feet are one of the thinnest of his kind, making him an excellent skater along with his aerodynamics.

In order to amplify his speed and agility on ice, Ocel's weapons are used as poles beside beating off predators and thugs.

Despite the fact that the scathers are dominantly white and silver, the Winter Knights have the habit of donning a color as an emblem of their duty and home village. As such, they are easier to spot and task by the villagers to deliver messages and items.

The Winter Knights are very respected for their brave duty in the frozen wild and are treated as heroes. It has become a tradition to have a very ambitious and traditional funeral when a Winter Knight passes on.

New parts galore! I used a lot of parts from the orders I had during spring and gave my effort to try some smoother designs.

And am I telling ya, the shins and shoulders made of bohrok weapons were a challenge, but I rather like the result, it's quite well filled, good looking and not floppy at all. The whole moc was practically built around the shoulder/shin idea. I also tried to keep as great a mobility as I could. Some of the designs do create some restrictions, but they aren't that a bad hindrance due to their locations. And do note: waist articulation! Side to side, rotation, back and a bit poorishly front due to the nuva shoulders meeting.

This was quite the pleasant moc to build I honestly love the colors I used. White and orange isn't seen too often, but I think it totally works with the silver. I will be pleased to hear your comments.

Good luck to others in the Battle of the Judges. I think it will all be quite interesting in the end.

Without a doubt I like your design the most from the other judges. Very cool color combination.

Goood. Nice colors and design, flows well. Not sure about the lower arms, but other than that, very good.

Wooooow, what a surprise, Monarth-san (-chan? Pleaseeeee =P) I was expecting an impressive, bulky warrior, but the futuristic skier idea just amazed me! The color scheme also looks very nice, except for the silver. It's not like it's a bad touch, but it looks weird in some of his points. Also, the shoulders position and the feet design don't help with the 'humanoid look'. Anyways, the originality of the entry is impressing, and I love, with all my heart, those feet and lower legs. The spikes and his torso, as well as the weapons, are awesome and fit the MOC very well. 8 points? 9 points? It's hard for me... Why can't we give 8.5? Well, take 9, lucky man.

Hrm. I like it. The more I look at the thing the more attached to it I get. It's certainly an original character. The eyes remind me of a fish. It would be significantly better if you'd used black instead of red on all of those axles throughout the thing. The mishmash of color everywhere is a bit disconcerting. Same goes for the silver, if you had blended the armor into a cohesive boot, greave, skirt, etc. it would have looked much better. However, it's got great shapes everywhere and looks like it's moving or ready to strike all the time. Props to you for those feet, even if I don't exactly like the design. 8/10

Cool ( :) ).

I'll talk about colors first before I get into shape design. Your colors are a bit out of whack, to be honest. There isn't much consistency in the way each color is treated. Orange is mostly used for spikes, yet there is that random orange Nuva shoulder armor above the crotch and the Bohrok eyes on the thighs don't function as spikes and don't function particularly well as armor, either. The orange foot in the torso also confuses the purpose of the orange. I think the inclusion of the red axles on all of the Bohrok eyes was a mistake as well, it introduces a completely unnecessary and potentially disrupting fifth color. The silver would benefit from being consistently over or consistently under the white to create some better layering. On the arms it's under, but on the legs it isn't really under or over, though the Kalmah armor over the white and the silver Bohrok shields on the shins being in line with the white. The torso could us some silver, as currently there is almost none. Moving on to shaping: The front of the upper torso is pretty sweet, and the back of it looks alright, too. It does seem to extend too far back, though, which from some angles works, and from others doesn't. The extremely thin waist also seems to work, though it would work better if the hips weren't so wide, as it is the upper torso looks like a ball on a table. Colors aside, the lower torso looks good as well keeping the round and curving motif. Legs: Again, the hips/thighs are a bit too wide, though that might be a fault of the hip connection. The Bohrok eyes don't look great because they don't form one smooth armor piece over the thigh, so a different solution would be preferred. Also, colors, as mentioned. On the shins, I don't really like the triangle, it's flat where pretty much everything else you have everywhere is curving and round. A simple way to make the colors work better on the shins would be to replace the silver Bohrok shields with white and make the white Bohrok eye silver. Part restrictions might prevent that, though. I also believe it would benefit from actual feet so the wings would actually look like ice skates rather than blade feet. The arms do what they're intended to do, so they look alright, although the upper arms may or may not benefit from the same color change that I suggested for the shins. Lastly, the head. I'm not really sure what to make of it. Are the orange Bohrok eyes supposed to be eyes? If so, I''d put them further back and probably change the color to differentiate them from the rest of the build. It also seems like it would benefit from some orange horns, given how spiky the rest of him is. Wow, that's long. Sorry about that, I didn't realize how much I was writing. I'll come back and rate it when I see all the other judges' entries.

Yes finally something that shows that these judges deserve to be judges! There isn't much I would change on this, 9 points.

I like the colors and the general look quite a bit, but I'm not too big a fan of "blank" heads. And the feet, while creative, look a bit too flimsy. Who has two thumbs and rates this MOC a 7? This guy!!! XD

Very nice build, Monarth! I like the orange and white combo. Though I don't know if its just me, but those legs look a little thin. But overall, nice job, a solid 7 points.

Really nice build. The character looks quite original (as it should), and has some good NPUs. I only see two problems. The waist is too thin, and the silver, IMO, disrupts an otherwise solid color scheme. Still, those are rather minor, so this gets an 8 from me.

It's a darn shame I wasn't in the Bio-Cup this year so that I could rate this. Despite that, this is great! The colors work great, as do the accents of silver throughout the Moc.I must say this design is very weird, but at the same time unique!I must give you props for that. The feet are very cool, almost like skis. Overall great Moc Monarth! :)

Quoting Ventum (Mittens) I like it. However, the red axles should be replaced by Black ones imo. Also, where did you get those orange fins on the feet from?
Bricklink. As for the red axles, I placed them with orange parts as I thought it would flow better with the color. Wherever is white or silver the axles are black.

This is very good. I like the shaping and the use of the armour pieces, seamlessly covering whatever skeleton or other frame you used. It reminds me of something that would have been made if Slizers had kept going, rather than being replaced by Roboriders and Bionicle. It's an excellent MOC. 8 points.

very good the mask and weapons are amazing, the one thing that concerns me is his feet though, i feel like he might be to top heavy 9/10
