Part 1 of the journal of Lord Thompson Tennis who disappeared in 1881 on his way to India aboard the "Imperial Empress"
About this creation
In July 2013, 132 years after the 'Imperial Empress' left for India a book was found in the north of the country. This book was a photo journal and it documented the voyage of the 'Imperial Empress' as it travelled from England to India. The ship never reached India and no one heard from Lord Thompson Tennis, its creator and pilot, again. However this journal is hoping to provide an insight on what happened on that fateful voyage.
November 16th 1881
"Cruising 1000ft above the north of the Gold Coast I've been noticed malfunctions in the propeller blade. The journey so far has been unremarkable and the vessel has performed well. However the propeller is proving more unreliable."
"The vibrations in the rear of the Empress proved that the propeller was causing problems so I found this clearing in the rainforest. It was an ideal place to land and examine the propeller further."
"Removing the propeller was difficult, almost as difficult as putting it on when I built the damned ship. The task proved worthless as I could see no fault with the blades."
"I believe now that the trouble with the propeller may be more of an issue with the bearings on the motor itself. This could affect the rest of the trip to the Raj if it is not brought under control."
"I can make no further alterations to the design of the Empress until I can land somewhere more populated so the plan will be to head further east, using the river to navigate."
"With the Raj still thousands of miles away the fault with the motor needs to be sorted."
The journal provides several interesting notions into the famed and ill-fated "Imperial Empress". There has been, until this discovery, no information on the ship when it left for India. As such speculation has been rife for years as to what happened. Where did the ship go? If it did crash why has no wreckage ever been found?
Secondly it has always been assumed Lord Thompson Tennis flew solo to India. However the photographs in his journal proved that someone must have been with him...
