2013 BIO-CUP: Toa Geth
About this creation
2013 Bio Cup

Toa Geth is a synthetic based life form of alien origin.

It was discovered during an archaeological expedition deep within the bowels of an ancient ruin.

When the excavation team found it, Toa Geth was encased in what appeared to be some kind of glass and steel sarcophagus covered in bizarre symbols.

How it came to be there is anyone’s guess.

Even though they recognized the entity wasn’t complete there was a collective sense it was still alive.

Despite any given apprehensions, the team attempted to open the sarcophagus.

A tremendous burst of energy was given off rendering everyone unconscious.

Upon recovering, the team members became witnesses to the birth of a new hybridized form of life.

It fused with all of their supplies and scientific equipment into a new body.

The first words it spoke, which were pretty amazing since it didn’t appear to have any mouth, were “I am Geth and I… am… alive.”

Luckily for them Toa Geth absorbed a great deal of information during its assimilation which allowed it to decide not to enter into combat mode.

When asked if there were others like it, Toa Geth responded there are other Geth but it was unique.

Apparently unlike others of its kind, it does not need to be linked to the collective mind of its fellow Geth to maintain its superior intellect or individual personality.

Although Toa Geth’s body is mechanical, its movements are as fluid and graceful as any living organism.

Toa Geth carries two energized plasma cannons and possesses an uncanny ability to aim them simultaneously with deadly precision.

By now some of you might be wondering how this bizarre creature became a Toa but that story will have to wait for another time!

4TH Wall:
Before anyone asks, yes this is my own interpretation on the Geth from the “Mass Effect” series. I decided to drop one into our alternate MOCiverse and see what mayhem gets stirred up. After all, if you can play one in the game, why not here?

Hmmmm... The design surely headed into an interesting direction, but it was pulled off weirdly. First, yeah, the neck, its not the best. Not sure about the legs, maybe they were meant to look weird, maybe they weren't. Either way, that small reverse articulation to connect with the hips do bug me a bit... Honestly, this is quite hard for me to judge, since, in one hand, the design kinda bugs me, but in the other, I always had a soft spot for the weird, unconventional builds. So, to even things out, I think I'm giving this a 6.

Fairly original and modern design, though the build is very simple. I like it! Well done, you get a 6 from me!

Hah, don't fret. It's a single aspect and for the most part this MOC ticks a good number of my boxes. Now I'll get this out of the way early; yes, there is an issue with the neck, but it's only in the shots where it shows to be 1 stud thick. Where it looks to be 2 studs thick it doesn't stand out so much. Liberal use of the tubes aligned with the neck may have disguised the issue and still left you with the flexibility intended as ell as continue the robotic motif. It would have been good to see more done to the torso as the HF pieces to the chest are a bit plain. You will actually get a 7 from me, but only barely. :)

Quoting David Alexander Smith Sticking your neck out a bit with this MOC?
Yeah and so far it seems like everyone wants to chop it right off! I'm not even sure I want to partake in R2 anymore even if I some how make it at this point (which seems unlikely at best).

I quite like it. He's so bendy. So strange. So twisty. So... nifty. That head takes the cake, but the neck does take it a bit... off. The tubes add nice detail, but not so much in the legs, which could have some other solution for armor... Also, I really find it rather unoriginal to have a HF chestplate, it takes a bit much off for me. He is a playable character, but has a strange conflict of originality and unoriginality. Thus, 5 points.

I like that elongated skull terminating in classic M.E. blue Geth 'eye' orb, nice tech there. Clearly quite poseable/playable, too. Wish that the inner parts of the lower legs didn't expose the HF bones so much; even rotating that HF blue armor to the front of the shins would've helped (around the front of the balljoint to the the anterior facing). In agreement with the Neck assessment thus far - throws the figure proportions off a bit for the whole body, to have neck so thin. 6 points from me :)

Quoting Yuri Fassio The "face" is excellent, reminds me of last year's "Bytes" fad. The neck... I can't look twice at it. Seriously, it looks like you just... propped the head up there, on the first thing you had handy. It ruins pretty much the whole look. The build is quite basic, but the legs are very interesting, never saw that kind of upper-reverse-articulation before. Here, take these 5 points and good luck :)
Sorry you feel that way but I was trying to keep the head mobile while staying under the height limit. If that doesn't float your boat then worship my hairy rucksack you sawed off little whippersnapper (heh, heh, heh)! Now get off my lawn!

Quoting Parrington Levens hehe, you are still very busy building mate, and even Toa stuff, multi talented mate ;)
I gotta' do something to keep from going stir crazy. Uh-oh, too late! Actually I have a couple more things to post but my camera's been acting up lately so taking pics has been spotty lately. Woe is me. Thanks pal.

Thanks everyone for the comments so far. To answer a couple of questions, I took humanoid to mean general size and shape, not mechanical versus organic. If the judges feel my build doesn't meet their qualifications, well then I guess I will have a real short run this time out. Also, I wanted my creation to be Geth based in origin but original in looks and presentation so I wasn't going for exact "Mass Effect" specs. Once again, I defer to the judges on that. All in all he is a fun build and that's what matters to me!

That IS a humanoid Moc metal... Looks cool. The build itself is simple, but it's got nice aesthetics and interesting legs.
