My entry to Round One of the 2013 Bio-Cup
About this creation
Cramastos was once a champion Glatorian. However, after the coming of the matoran, Cramastos had no job. Eventually, after many years, he came out of the desert, half-starved and in need of medical attention. Years later, when the Toa Mahri were being cut down, leaders decided to activate the red star’s lighting power, and created new Toa Inika from Glatorian, Agori and Matoran. Cramstos became a toa of water, with minor electricity powers.

*Update: His helmet is there for contrast, but here's the story: Prior to his self-inflicted exile, he fought for the fire tribe, but upon his return, he was healed and repaired by the water tribe, thus his armour was made in blue and silver, but, in deference to his origins, his helmet was left in its original red*

“Hello”

Front

Side (including the Miru as shoulder armour)

The back

Side (Attack arm) Also note the custom feet

You can see, in this shot, the pipes that I’ve used as greebles. They are only wedged in, not actually attached to anything

As seen here

With the “don’t scrap your character” rule in mind, I made his armour modular, so that I can mod him in various ways

The sword

“Charge men!”

The whole, jump-down-and-crouch-land,-looking-dramatic-as-that-is-done

The sword clips on the back

He’s under the height limit, as seen here. (I live in a country that uses real measurements, i.e. centimetres

You can’t really see it, but there’s a little trans-blue stud in there

“Goodbye all, and judges, please rate me well!”

4th Surface:
I’m really happy with Cramastos. I can’t say much else, I’m just really happy with him. Good luck to the other contestants!

Quoting Crazy Awesome #1 Nice moc here! I'm especially fond of the sword and the tubes in the torso; I think that's where the parts seem to flow best. The Miru on the left shoulder is also very smooth and flowing. I think the legs needed the most work here, they seem blockier, and while they were built well I don't think they fit in with this moc. Nice!
Thanks. I like the legs, but I agree, a bit blocky.

Quoting Berial . A bold moc, and one that I can see a lot of effort went in making it! Well done! You get a 6 from me!

Quoting Evan 'Beardless Dwarf' Botkin (Birthday July 8th!) He looks awesome! I like the difference in the shoulder armor; makes him look very Glatorian-ish. The helmet color is nice too. And yes, your country uses 'real' measurements. We Americans measure things by how we buy donuts, i.e. 12 inches to a foot, 36 inches to a yard. Metric system is so much easier to understand.
Thanks. Indeed, Base 10 is much more sensible than base 12

Quoting Johann Dakitsch Good build and a nice color choice for the head, gives a good contrast. It is a bit small, though, and with the rigid flat neck area, the flow there is quite thrown off. And yeah, as already mentioned, the golden thighs really don't go well. I was in doubt between giving this a 6 or a 7, but because of the bold head color and the nice sword, here goes a 7.
Thank you! Thank you very much!

Quoting Chris Yee Awesome details to the torso, quite like the feet the the construction of the legs in general (though I'm a bit split on the use of the chest armour, but that's an aesthetic opinion). Helmet choice makes his head stand out, which is good and I agree with Crowe, that colour definitely should have been used to accent other areas as well. Except the brown/gold/dark bley heads. They just don't fit at all into the colour scheme. You get a 7, though might I ask why that part and that colour was used for thigh armour? Mostly out of curiosity since their use isn't mentioned.
Thanks. Why were they used? I was out of parts. They were all I had, and I liked the way the forehead matched up with the triangular shape of the top of the HF armour. I like the colour, and though it was subtle enough to pass muster, but clearly I was mistaken.

Quoting Clever Crowe I'm really biased towards what are loosely-named 'muscleMOCs' so I'll get that right out front, but - I really enjoy the framed-out proportions and curves, here. I have less issue with any torso rigidity than my Judge peers, but only because I fail at Waist Articulation more often than most. I like the tubing greeble you used to close the sides there, nice Custom work (also adds to visibility of curved shapes). GREAT sword - and I love the delta-taper it makes when mounted on the back of the hips when stored. One of the best MOCs in the contest for me, thus far. Nitpicks? I wanted an orange HeroCore to carry your color from the Mask to the chestplate, and I liked the profile limb curves so much, I wanted a little more of them when the figure is fully effaced. Still giving this an 8, though. Strong work, good luck!
Thank you! Hadn't thought about the orange hero core... Maybe in continuing versions. If this wasn't a purist contest (and I wasn't rigidly purist), I'd do something to an orange hero core to make it look less hero-core-y, and then add it. The sword was luck, more than anything else, so I'm glad it worked. I'm very glad I didn't go for my other sword option. I tried to work in some curving at the knees (with those disks), but I know what you mean. Thanks for the evaluation.

Quoting Monarth GS Very nice custom look, I like especially the asymmetry. It has great detail, it's armored well and would be worth an 8 from me. However there a are a couple of nitpicks to deal with. First, the golden thighs are really distracting and do not really compliment the overall look. Second, the idea of the red helmet is a nice contrast, but doesn't exactly feel to work that well. For some reason red and blue together doesn't really work for my taste =/ Third, eh... Well, I'm not much to nitpick for waist posability, but he stands so straight it looks almost inhuman to me. So yes, a bit more of that torso articualtion could've been shown. For these reasons I'm going to give you 6 points, but still your creation is one of the stronger ones at the moment.
Okay, thank you.

Quoting Yuri Fassio Indeed. I think that if you had chosen a more compact breastplate instead of that standard HF one, the waist would have gained much mobility and you'd have gotten that 7th point. It's a pity because now you risk to be surpassed by less appealing but more playable MOCs. But to be precise, I'm not that biased towards rigid torsos, only when a long torso is used to increase size without using the extra space to add mobility as well (like Lego designers do with their large sets like Brutaka, or more recently the Witch Doctor). A smaller build, like even a basic Hero set, can get away with it because it's too small for the rigidity to become too conspicuous.
Indeed. Okay, thanks. I also think that the lack of mobility in a large set is sad. Terrible waist. (That was an unintentional pun, and it was bad.)

Quoting Yuri Fassio That's not annoying, you have every right to appeal if you think I missed something. Of course contest rules prevent you from editing your page now, but in the end, my objection was on the lack of mobility, so the fact that there is in fact a ball joint inside is academic. What's more, don't take my judging the wrong way: I like this entry and it's tied for the highest score I gave (so far) in the games.
Thanks. He does have a greater degree of flexibility than demonstrated here, but that's my fault for not showing it. No, I didn't (and haven't) take offence, I just thought that if I was being marked down for lack of balljoint, then that was unfair. Thanks for getting back to me.

Quoting Reaper the Ultimate . [...] I'm here to do something that's probably very annoying, so sorry in advance. Here goes: Cramastos does have a balljoint in his torso. It's partially concealed behind the pipes. I can provide two pieces of evidence, if required.

Quoting Yuri Fassio Garret was partially right. I don't care much for the d-gold on its legs. It's superfluous and it distracts from what should be the real focus: the contrasting head. That was a cool, interesting idea and it really pops out, but I think it would have worked better with a head of a different color. Nice asymmetry in the shoulder armor, always a cool design choice. One question (and really, it's always the same in most r1 entries every year): you obviously went through a lot of work to give him a co,pletely custom torso. Is there a reason why you wouldn't stick a ball joint in it somewhere? As a result, this picture where he's trying to kneel to recover the sword he dropped, but he can't because his back hurts http://www.mocpages.com/image_zoom.php?mocid=363187&id=/user_images/96268/1372118598m is hilarious. Still, you get a 6 from me, and that's the maximum I'm going to give to any MOC with a completely rigid custom torso, so it means it's very good :)
Ahh, I was worried about this. There is a balljoint in there, behind the pipes. It's a little restricted, but it exists. If you want proof, I can upload a stripped down photo.

Quoting [ Chro ] No, Inika is actually what Jaller named his team... though I suppose that within your storyline they could just name themselves in homage to the originals. (I won't even mention the thing about Glatorian and Agori becoming Toa, since literally only Matoran can do that.) Nice build anyway. XD
He named them Inika because of the lighting. It says so in "Power Play". And it's Bionicle, technically anything can happen (within reason). And Ackar, Kina and Gresh became Toa in "The Legend Reborn". Well, technically Toa. Anyway, thanks.

Quoting Kraata Face Looks great but the Helmet throws it off. Also, a story note. There can't be anymore Toa Inika, that was the name of a certain team
I still like the contrast of the Helmet, and the Inkia simply referred to the lighting that made them Toa.
