When SEAL's military designers were tasked with designing a ground attack aircraft, they took inspiration from one of nature's great natural bombers...
About this creation
This is a build for Mike Rutherford's wargame/MOC contest/social experiment, Decisive Action, in the build category 'Offensive Air Power'. If you like it, please 'Like' it - it helps in the game! I will respond in kind to all comments made on this MOC, even if we're opponents.
Launching from their camouflaged cliffside hangars, SS-14s are ready to take the offense to SEAL's enemies wherever they may be found!
Ordnance loaded and primed...
...all systems nominal, and pre-flight checks complete. Clear the launch bay all hands!
Launch successful, bird is in the air!
The SS-14's unconventional design confers many advantages. Its wings are furled on landing; the resulting compact footprint eases transport and deployment of these birds in large numbers.
Being a robotic drone with variable wing geometries and advanced avionics, 'Steven' can fly closer to the ground and maneuvre at higher G-forces than any human pilot, enabling him to enter enemy territory under the radar, and easily evade any fighters scrambled to intercept the attack.
Twin Whatt & Pritney turbofan engines provide an excellent thrust-to-mass ratio, and are also able to rotate in their mountings for VTOL capability.
The absence of a human pilot & cockpit allows the SS-14 to carry not one but two devastating weapons systems! In the belly of the beast, high-explosive bunker busting barracuda bombs...
...and bringing up the rear, anti-personnel guano canisters filled with SEAL's unique formula neurotoxin, 'Agent Green.'
Agent Green is extremely sticky, smelly, and emits fumes that trigger the brain's revulsion centres, completely incapacitating anyone exposed to the gas for several hours with bouts of retching. It's also biodegradeable and causes no permanent damage to wildlife or the environment - chemical warfare with a social conscience!
The tech bay contains instruments for monitoring the drone throughout the mission, and even taking direct remote control of the bombing run if necessary. (That's not an LED by the way, it's just backlit through a headlamp brick!)
I'd like to dedicate this MOC to the very talented DeTomaso Pantera, whose excellent Lego Bird Series partially inspired this one and deserves your consideration on CUUSOO.
Final shot of the hangar - thanks also to Michael, age 6, for foliage designs and additional toilet humour!
General Lucas. Sheesh! I'm behind in reviewing MOCs... but THIS one stands out. It's wacky (yea, we got some wacky already...) But THIS SUCKAH is well built wacky! It's really bird-like in it's... wackyness. I dig it. The hanger "Nest" and the attention to detail (1x1 printed tile on the bomb fuse caps?) Exellent. You need more yellow heads though. Go out into MOCpages and get them. Farm those heads the way others in DA have done. Rain distuction on the foolish! Attack!
General Lucas. I'm pretty far behind in reviewing DA MOCs... but THIS is a stand out effort. It's wacky and we already got lots of wacky... but this is well built wacky, and we don't see nearly as much of that! The hanger/nest is very cool, and the detail (printed 1x1 round tile on the bomb fuse caps?) is outstanding. The hour is late, but the issue is far from decided. Get out there and farm some more yellow heads for this suckah…and change the world. Rain destruction on the foolish!
Wow, you really have a knack for building hatches coming out of giant animals rears! Another plus for this is that people will look up in the sky and not have a second thought about a bird flying around in the sky, these would be prime for stealth too. Great job!
Whoa, if this doesn't instil the fear of mother nature into someone nothing will. Brilliant take on the category, the design is sheer genius. I especially like the wings, though the head is also quite impressive. As is the bunker, very unconventional yet fantastic installation.
Your models are genuinely entertaining General, it is a pleasure having you in DA. You are specifications accurate for the category...I pity the fool who's skies are darkened by Steven Seagull. Rountree must love this one. Good luck!
