Black Eagle
The ASF 100 Black Eagle is designed to be the most capable and maneuverable fighter in New Babylon. Capable of speeds in excess of Mach 4 and maneuvers that are seemingly impossible, THIS IS THE FUTURE OF AIR COMBAT.
About this creation

The Black Eagle represents two decades of secret development and cutting edge technology. In the air, it simply comes alive, soaring past the opposition.

Here, the ASF 100 fires a long range Bloodhound missile. all Gaufranian air to air missiles incorporate thrust vectoring and are resistant to most electronic and physical countermeasures, having heat resistant armored tips and fins, to resist defensive lasers.

The stunning outline. it even looks lethal on the ground. The Black Eagle can project the sky behind it, I front of it. This sort of optical Camo is very pricey on power, so to save weight, only a small fusion cell is carried, that powers this, and the on board defense systems. In order to conserve power, the optical camo varies according to the visibility of the aircraft. When it is in a position where enemies can see it, it activates, but areas of the plane not visible will not be hidden. This means that the aircraft can be seen by friendly pilots flying near by, as long as no enemy pilot is also in the area. When completely cloaked, friendly HMDs will outline the aircraft, to prevent collisions.

The key to the Black Eagle's success, is its unique piloting system. Machines have technical perfection, a computer controlled aircraft won't make mistakes. But there will always be a need for human ingenuity in the field of combat, so ASF 100 pilots have a neural link from their helmets to an onboard, ultra advanced biological computer, called the "Spirit". through this link, the computer, the most advanced of its kind anywhere, is able to merge with the pilot's brain, forming a hybrid system of perfection, where the aircraft knows what the pilot is thinking, and combines the data from the controls, the neural link and its own intelligence, to guarantee that whatever the pilot wants to do, happens with the perfection of a machine.

The bloodhound long range missile costs 32 million Gaufranian dollars, and has a range of over 65 KM

"Spirit" not only enhances the pilot's abilities, but also automatically aids him/her. Using a system called the "net" all Gaufranian vehicles and combatants communicate battle data. the "Spirit" processes this to make a detailed map of the entire battlefield, even on a global scale. this means that any detected enemy unit, anywhere, is being tracked by the computer. Even if an infantryman just glimpses an enemy stealth aircraft flying low, his helmet mounted camera will identify it and add its last known position, speed, and direction to the net. this makes it extremely hard to catch an ASF 100 pilot off guard.

A good shot of the air intakes, which S-bend inwards to shield the fan blades from radar,

The wing is an Aero-elastic, hybrid forward/backwards swept design. this gives blistering low speed handling, and speeds up to Mach 4.2, beating most other forward swept designs.
The surface of the aircraft is coated in a thermal shielding, radar absorbant composite, that both aids stealth, and hides the infra red signiture of the engines and internal fusion cell.

the canard foerplanes give exceptional angles of attack, and low speed handling.

On each Tail is the aircraft's namesake. A black Eagle, the most powerful of all the predatory Eagles.

A pilot gets ready for a sortie, while a soldier guards the priceless ordinance. (not as priceless as the aircraft)

The Eagles on the tails were sprayed on with an airbrush, through a homemade stencil.

Between the tails is a last ditch weapon. if maneuvering and electronic countermeasures fail, and flares prove ineffective, then this high powered laser, powered by a micro fusion cell, will detonate un protected missiles in a hundredth of a second.

The engines are two Gaufranian Firebird TX144 Hybrids. each one is a turbojet, that converts to a ramjet for high speed flight, by bypassing the compressor stage, and allowing the turbine to spin freely. internal shock cones adjust the flow of air entering to ensure a constant pressure within.

The thrust vectoring nozzles both cool the exhaust gases and inject them with Chloro-flourosulphonic acid to prevent vapour trails forming, but their main function is to increase maneuverability. here they are fully open.

For roll, they alternate.

For yaw, they have secondary rudders, one in the middle and one on each side (not really visible)

The cockpit is the most detailed part. This image also best shows the port for the 27mm Coilgun. This three barrelled weapon fires caseless AP and incendiary cannon rounds, at fire rates of up to 1650 RPM. Having no propellant charge, the aircraft can carry up to 1400 rounds, more than enough considering close in dogfights are rare with this kind of technology. The Gun has a range of over 10 km, due to its very high velocity. Accurate aiming at this distance is only made possible by the "Spirit".

If you look carefully, you will see a side stick, for control (right) a throttle (left) ejector seat handles (yellow) and rudder pedals (grey, in front of ejection handles)and a holographic gunsight.

Do you ever wish you were a minifigure?

The underside

Gear down

The thrust vectoring is three axis. the third axis is forward/back. vents can open, and the nozzles close, to direct thrust backwards, for short landing or mid air braking.

Her the vents are open. With the aeroelastic wing, which can reverse the aerofoil, the black eagle can actually fly backwards at a speed of Mach 0.35

the Nose gear seems simple, but was made hard by lack of parts at that point.

It fits in fine.

The main gear was both difficult to build, and even more difficult to work.but I was determined to have working landing gear for it.

These photos do not show it, but two tiles must be removed to open the gear doors. this was unavoidable.

I had to do some tyre-stretching to get the right size.

Once the gear is in, the doors close snuggly.

Like this.

A good overview.

The Eagle bears its teeth.
it can hold up to 8 medium range, 4 long range, and 10 short range missiles, in different combinations. this one has 6 medium range, 2 short range and 2 cluster bombs, but a full missile load is usually 4 long, 4 medium, and 2 short.

inside the weapons bays their are the short range missiles, not visible in the previous shot.

The money shot, full selection of ordinance. (that I have built)

This took so long to upload, edit, and annotate, never mind build, please, please do rate and comment.

Hail Gaufrania!

Quoting André . this one is amazing with all those functions! do you have instructions for it?
Word of advice on MOC pages, never ask a real bricks builder for instructions. It gets on all our nerves. If it is LDD we sometimes post the file anyway, but brick builds especially big ones like this woukd require ages to make plans for and that is not why we make them in the first place. Try not to ask in future, instead, try immitating small areas like a detail in your models abd then give something credit. Yeah u learn how to make things like this without just being told how.

Amazing jet. This was the primary inspiration for my fighter the F-90. Loads of cool features and details. Love the landing gear (I've always had trouble with that). Easy 5/5.

Quoting Zach Eli "Sierra" Sykes I officially hate you. I wanted to do a gap in the wing like that on the Manta but I couldn't get it to work right and it ended up looking terrible. Such is the curse of LDD. And I don't know why you think the cockpit is too small. It looks good and it gives the impression the aircraft is potentially bigger than it is. What is the actuall stud measurements on it? I'm now curious who's fighter is actually bigger. I am finally impressed by one of your builds. This deserves a 5/5. How much does it carry total ordinance? I haven't yet bothered to count (will go back and do that soon as I'm done writing this). I guess all the hype was worth it though I still don't understand how you have 3 axis thrust vectoring on there. I'll buy it but I cant see how. Anyways, finally here and worht the wait. That is actually impressive and more than a worthy adversary for the Cobra in an even fight. May we wish our pilots luck.
I am glad you hate me for agood reason now. Thanks for the compliments. I designed the split wing about four months ago when I made the first sketches. It has ten internal hardpoints. Four of them can hold long range missiles, two can hold bombast, and all can good medium or short range missiles. The third axis is backward thrust for short landing and mid air. Braking. With the aeroelastic wing, it. Can also fly backwards.

Although it has many studs taht do not really fall into place, I still think it is cool for its functions and a detailed cockpit, which I could not do myself, at least not a pleasing one.

This is really great. There is a lot to say about this moc, first off is the photography. The photoshopping is fantastic, and you managed to give us a good view of the creation, and its power. The aircrafts functions "landing gear, thrust vectoring" is my favorite part. You've incorporated so many individual features into it, and in my opinion is my favorite aircraft in the group now.
