The plan was simple: Teridax would lure Takanuva into his lair and capture him. Meanwhile, Blackwing would hold off the Toa from getting into the lair. The Blackwing would fly down into the lair and take the Avokhii from Takanuva, killing him instantly. But this plan didn't turn out the way Teridax had planned...

Takutanuva shouted across to the other Toa. "Come on! Get over here! This gate won't hold open for much longer!" The Toa didn't need telling twice. They all looked at each other then took off, sprinting towards the gate. Takuta, now reduced to one knee, two knees, struggled to hold the gate up as each one of them slid under. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. Takuta was about to let go when he caught sight of Hahli, still staring into the darkness. She knew something. "What are you doing? Get over here now! I can't hold on much longer!" Hahli just scraped under the gap before the gate slammed shut. Takuta heaved a sigh of relief. He stood up and stared into the darkness. Somehow he knew he was not alone.
He drew his sword.
A flash of black.

Blackwing, perched from the top of a giant pillar, scowled at the intruder who was gazing into the darkness. He didn't know that the intruder was really his master but fused with another being. Blackwing stayed motionless. If he moved, he would be spotted. He had to move quickly, eliminating the opponent before he realised his presence. Blackwing crawled slowly further up the pillar and carefully spread his wings. And jumped. He rocketed silently through the darkness towards his target. The intruder, with his sword drawn, hadn't seen him yet.
The perfect opportunity.
Blackwing was so engrossed about his attack that he didn't realise the pillar that his wing was about to crash into. He turned sharply and flew off track.
Ruining the assault.
"Damn!" he exclaimed as he swerved from left to right, trying to regain balance. But it was too late. He was headed for a collision with the intruder.
He had to abort.
He lifted his left wing slightly and took a rapid 60 degree turn to the right. Unfortunately, he turned when directly in front of the intruder.
He had been spotted.
