A day at the beach
About this creation
Built for the 2WC Contest 10: Summer Blast in The Contest Group.

Going to the beach is a popular summer activity...

At the beachside cafe, one can order a variety of food, such as the ever-popular ice cream.

Going down by the water is also an option.

A dad watches his son play in the sand.

A man eats his ice cream while looking at the ocean.

Some fancy rich guy is ready to buy his ice cream.

Another person has just paid a very high price for his ice cream.

Side view. This MOC was one of my first attempts of building on an irregular base. While the left side is composed of mainly straight lines, the right follows the rockwork to create an irregular shape.

The back of the cafe is left open to allow you to see inside.

Left side view.

This rockwork was probably the hardest part of the MOC. I tried to capture the feel of loose, weathered rocks, and I think I succeeded.

The rockwork on this side is simpler, but I still like how it turned out.

The tiling pattern on the ground, similar to the pattern used in the 4886 Building Bonanza.

This table was made using some 180 degree SNOT, which allowed me to attach an umbrella.

Exploded view of how it's made.

The sign gave me some trouble. I wanted to use a sticker, but I don't have any restaurant sets with a sticker that would work, and I didn't want to make a custom sticker. In the end, I just attached a flower and a glass to the sign to show that it's a beachside cafe.

The roof of the cafe is removable to allow you to look inside.

Inspired by TX-008 [1998].

Very nice. Fun details and great rock work. LEGO really needs to make 'bills' less than $100.

After the fantastic comment you left on my creation, it felt only fair I did the same for one of yours. The rockwork in this one caught my eye from the thumbnail, and I wasn't disappointed. Man, those loose rocks are stellar! What a great technique. Nice texturing on the beach, too, and good move using the dark tan closer to the water. Those spots with the clear studs are not my favorite though, they kind of feel out of place and from far away look empty. But if it was a lack of parts issue or something, I totally understand :P The irregular base also looks great, though the small jut-out of ocean on the right seems a bit out of place. Still, it gives the free-moving feel that the ocean has. The skeleton-foot railing is nice, as is the umbrella and SNOTed table. All in all, an excellent, clean, and superb build!

Really, really well built and summer-y. The rockwork, the table structure, the tiled floors - all combine to a really beautifully composed MOC. Great!

Fantastic build, evocative of the feelings of summer. Love the railing design and rockwork, the best loose rock design I've seen at this scale.

Build: 10 Theme: 5 Presentation: 5 Total: 20/20 Nice job. We were supposed to have another entry, but he never did anything after saying he needed to make a few changes to his entry and then he never posted a link. So here we are again with two people and barely a contest.

The only thing that doesn't look good is the price tag on the ice cream. That scoop better have gold flecks in it for that price.

Great job! This definitely has a "summer feel" to it. That ice-cream sure must be good to cost one hundred dollars and people still come to buy it! I like the rocks and water too, very realistic.
